1. BSc Part Time Year 4 & 5 Degree Information

This document is intended for those students who wish to study the final stage of a part time degree over a 2 year period.

If your application is accepted we will contact you to enrol on the course and invite you to an Induction Day to provide course overviews and an introduction to the University of Teesside facilities. The schedule is as follows:

a. Entry requirements

Candidates must have successfully completed ONE of the below mentioned studies.

  • HND in a computing subject.
  • BSc/BA modules - 120 credits at level 1 and 120 credits at level 2.
  • Foundation Degree (FD) in a computer related discipline.

Please consult the HNC/D Course Information document if you wish to undertake a BSc/BA part-time programme but do not have the above entry requirements.

b. University Regulations

University regulations state that to obtain an honours degree, a student must acquire 360 credits, from all points of study. This 360 must be made up of 120 at level 1, 120 at level 2, and 120 at level 3

Students with a HND from Teesside University (TU) are credited with 120 Level 1 credits, and 120 Level 2 credits.

Students with an HND from other institutions should have a similar credit profile to TU and again those students will be considered. We will need to see a copy of your certificate in order to confirm you meet the above regulations.

c. BSc Part-Time Year 4 and Year 5 Programme

BSc final In BSc year 4 the student will study 2 x 20 credit level 3 modules,

In BSc year 5 the year – part-time study programme operates over a 2 year period.

Split over the period will be a Project worth 40 level 3 credits.

The designated day for BSc Years 4 and 5 will be a Tuesday. Provided you meet the pre-requisites and you are able to attend the timetabled sessions you may opt to undertake other modules as part of your Year 4 and 5 study plan.

2. BSc Computer Studies or Computer (Networking) (Part Time)

a. Oct 2010 – BSc Year 4 and Oct 2011 – BSc Year 5 part-time modules.

Entry for October 2011 - Degree Programme for HND Top-up Modules and FD Network. FD Network student must do the compulsory modules Advance Networks and ICT Service Management.

  • BSc final year – part-time study programme operates over a 2 year period.
  • In BSc year 4 the student will study 2 x 20 credit level 3 modules,
  • In BSc year 5 the student will study 2 x 20 credit level 3 modules
  • Split over the period will be a Project worth 40 level 3 credits.

Students who want to progress onto the degree final year top up part-time programme operating over years 4 and 5 need to email and cc a copy to with this below information.

5. Enrolling.

If your application is successful you will be invited to formally enrol online onto the course.

Do remember that it is vital that you formally enrol on the course, in early September.

However any student enrolled on a part-time course, which at enrolment is in receipt of certain benefits or on low income, may be granted financial support or full remission of basic tuition, registration and approved examination fees. Normal residence eligibility conditions apply to this, and students who already have a Bachelors Degree are ineligible.

The following has been provided as a guide only and fee query and/or confirmation should be directed to Finance on the above phone or email.

If the students are continuing on the same course the fees will be:-

BSc Year 4 PT - 2 x 20 credits = £500 (no discount if continuing on the same course)

BSc Year 5 PT - 2 x 20 credits + 1 x 40 credits = £1000

If it is a new course code that the student is doing, then the student will be charged the new rate of:-

BSc Year 4 PT - 2 x 20 credits = £405 (includes discount for 1st time on course)

BSc Year 5 PT - 2 x 20 credits + 1 x 40 credits = £1080
