CAWL Weight Class & Eligibility

1. CAWL Weight Classes. The CAWL weights for the 2014-15 season are:
50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 110, 115, 122, 130, 140, 150, 170, 190, 250
2. Standard CAWL Weight Allowance. The CAWL grants a standard 0.3lb allowance at all CAWL weigh-ins
(e.g. a wrestler competing in the 70lb weight class will make weight at the CAWL Preseason Tournament
andat CAWL Dual events provided he weighs 70.3lbs or less). This standard 0.3 lb weight allowance
does NOT apply at non-CAWL events.
3. CAWL Championship Tournament Weight Allowance. The CAWL grants a 1lb allowance at the CAWL
Championship Tournament (e.g. a wrestler competing in the 70lb weight class will make weight at the
CAWL Championship Tournament provided he weighs 71.3lbs or less).
4. Bandits 1 and Bandits 2 Rostering. Parents must select the appropriate CAWL weight class for their wrestler
and inform the coach prior to the Christmas school break. Bandits are expected to "make weight" for the
parent-designated weight class the entire season. The Bandits must submit team rosters with weight classes
designationsprior to 31DEC14. Once submitted, wrestlers cannot swap teams.
5. Changing Weight Classes. A wrestler can only move one weight class (either up or down) after his/her first
weigh-in at a CAWL Dual event (the CAWL Preseason Tournament weigh-in does NOT count). Changing weight
classes after submission of our rosters to the CAWL or a failure to make weight at the rostered weight class at
the first CAWL Dual event weigh-in creates myriad problems and should be avoided if at all possible.
6. CAWL Championship Tournament Qualification. In order to qualifyfor the CAWL Championship Tournament,
the wrestler must:
a. Weigh-in 2 times at 2 CAWL Dual events at or below "Scratch Weight" (the CAWL Preseason
Tournament does NOT count). "Scratch Weight" is defined as the CAWL weight classplus 0.3 lbs (e.g. for
the 75 lb weight class, a wrestler can weigh a maximum of 75.3 lbs during a weigh-in to beconsidered making
"Scratch Weight").
b. Compete in five 5 matches at CAWL Dual events (the CAWL Preseason TournamentDoes NOT count).
Exhibition matchesdo count.
7. Going up a Weight Class for the CAWL Championship Tournament. A wrestler may compete in the CAWL
Championship Tournament at the weight class that he qualified for, or one weight class higher (not lower) than
the weight class that he qualified for. Coaches are required to designate each wrestler's weight class for the
CAWL Championship Tournament at the Seeding Meeting (the week of the tournament). Unless told otherwise
by the parent, coaches will designate wrestlers in the lowest weight class which they qualified for. All wrestlers
competing in the CAWL Championship Tournament must make weight for the weight class designated by their
coach at thetournament weigh-in or be scratched from the tournament.
8. By Exception Weight Allowances.
a. If 1 or more teams competes back-to-back (e.g. Saturday and Sunday) at CAWL Dual events, then
all wrestlers at the applicable Sunday CAWL Dualevent location may be granted a one 1 lb allowance. If your
wrestlerweighs-in using this allowance, however, it does NOT count as making "Scratch Weight".
See note below.
b. If a CAWL Dual event is held following practice cancellations due to weather, all wrestlersat the applicable
CAWL Dual event location may be granted a one1 lb allowance. If yourwrestler weighs-in using this
allowance, however, it does NOT count as "Scratch Weight". See notebelow.

Notes: Do not assume a 1 lballowance is given in these cases. The CAWL President must approve these exceptions. The Bandit CAWL team Head Coach will inform you if/ when an allowance applies. However, please ensure that your wrestler makes "Scratch Weight" at all weigh-ins, until such time that your wrestler is qualified for the CAWL Championship Tournament.

9. CAWL Age Eligibility Requirements and Age Restrictions. Wrestlers must be a minimum of 8 years old
(waiverable) and be a maximum of 15 years old (Not waiverable) as of 31DEC15. See weight class age
restrictions below:
a. Minimum Age Restrictions (Waiverable).
In the 95 pound weight class, a wrestler must be nine (9) or older on or before December 31
In the 100 & 105 pound weight classes, a wrestler must be ten (10) or older on or before December 31
In the 110 through 122 pound weight classes, a wrestler must be eleven (11) or older on or before December 31
In the 130 through 250 pound weight classes, a wrestler must be twelve (12) or older on or before December 31
b. Maximum Age Restrictions (Not Waiverable).
In the 50 pound weight class, a wrestler cannot be ten (10) on or before December 31
In the 55 pound weight class, a wrestler cannot be eleven (11) on or before December 31
In the 60 pound weight class, a wrestler cannot be twelve (12) on or before December 31
In the 65 & 70 pound weight class, a wrestler cannot be thirteen (13) on or before December 31
In the 75 & 80 pound weight classes, a wrestler cannot be fourteen (14) on or before December 31
In the 85 & 90 pound weight classes, a wrestler cannot be fifteen (15) on or before December 31
In the 95 through 250 pound weight classes, a wrestler cannot be sixteen (16) on or before December 31

c. Wrestlers who do not meet minimum age Eligibility Requirements or Minimum Age Restriction requirements can compete, provided their parent or guardian signs a CAWL Age Waiver form. The form is posted to banditswrestling.com under "Resources".

10. CAWL Ineligibility Due to Varsity Weigh-in. Wrestlers who weigh-in for a High School varsity event are immediately and permanently ineligible to wrestle in the CAWL. Report such a weigh-in to the Bandit CAWL team coach immediately. Failing to do so will result in team sanctions and team forfeiture of all duals in which the ineligible wrestler competed.

11. Virginia-Maryland Championships. The CAWL competes in this tournament with 4 other similar leagues in Maryland. The top 4 placers from each league qualify for the tournament. Eligibility requirements for this event follow:

a. League Qualifier Rule: A wrestler must have participated in that league's qualifying tournament (for Bandits, CAWL Championship Tournament).

b. Two Practice Rule: A wrestler must practice at least twice a week (barring injury, illness, family emergencies, religious education and/or homework) with the member league’s organization.

c. Varsity Weigh-in Rule: Same rule as CAWL, excepting our JV wrestlers must be cleared to compete.

d. Two Team Rule: A wrestler may not wrestle for more than one organization during the current season (01JAN-15MAR15).

e. All-Star Rule: A wrestler may not wrestle on an All-Star team more than twice during the season (01JAN-15MAR15).

f. 50 Mile Radius Rule: A wrestler must live within a 50 mile radius of the organization for which he is entered in the tournament.

g. Number of Scratch Weigh-ins: Same rule as CAWL.

h. Weight Classes: Same as CAWL.

i. AgeEligibility Requirements and Age Restrictions: Same rules as CAWL.
