JOB TITLE: Applications LaboratoryTechnician

DATE: July 25, 2014

LOCATION: Decatur, AL

REPORTS TO: Application Tech Manager

GENERAL PURPOSE

Perform laboratory tests and experiments in order to support the development of new products and technologies. Develop expertise with applications technologies and equipment. Visit customers to help support their efforts to commercialize and use Daikin products.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Perform laboratory tests and experiments
  2. Perform calculations, analyze, record, and report results.
  3. Write procedures for equipment, test methods.
  4. Perform equipment maintenance and repair as needed including line openings.
  5. Research, recommend, and facilitate the purchase and installation of new laboratory equipment as directed by management.
  6. Assist in the purchase and installation of equipment.
  7. Additional assignments as deemed necessary

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  1. Basic technical skills including: computer skills (MS Office – especially Excel), basic math skills (algebra), basic knowledge of chemistry (1 semester college chemistry or equivalent).
  2. Ability to work on polymer processing equipment performing cleaning and routine maintenance including the ability to lift 50 lbs.
  3. Ability to conduct property evaluation tests using sophisticated laboratory equipment to assess the desirability of process or formulation changes.
  4. Mechanical / electrical knowledge - ability to troubleshoot processing equipment, working with basic hand and power tools, operate mechanical equipment.
  5. Ability to record and maintain all data in laboratory notebooks
  6. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  7. Good interpersonal skills; effective oral and written communication skills.
  8. Basic Laboratory skills - ability to operate a balance, pH meter, aptitude to learn how to operate sophisticated laboratory testing equipment.
  9. Work assignments predominately during the regular business day, periodically in the evenings, and on weekends as directed by the supervisor.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  1. Associates Degree (2 year) in a technical subject (e.g. Laboratory Technician, Process Technician)
  2. Previous laboratory experience or training
  3. Knowledge of polymer processing and extrusion equipment.
  4. Polymer Chemistry Knowledge
