The Caverna Board of Education met at Caverna Central Office at 6:30 o’clock

PM., on the 30th day of September, 2014, with the following members present:

93. APPROVE AGENDA

Motion by Wilson, Seconded by Hatcher to approve the Agenda as prepared and presented. VOTE: ALL AYES

94. APPROVE CLOSED SESSION PER KRS 61.810. TO INTERVIEW FINALISTS FOR POSITION OF SUPERINTENDENT.

Motion by Payton, Seconded by Hatcher to approve Closed Session per KRS 61.810 To Interview Finalists for Position of Superintendent. VOTE: ALL AYES

95. APPROVE OPEN SESSION

Motion by Neely, Seconded by Wilson to Approve Open Session.

VOTE: ALL AYES

96. TO CONSIDER THE APPOINTMENT OF SUPERINTENDENT

Motion by Hatcher, Seconded by Wilson to approve to consider the appointment of Superintendent. VOTE: ALL AYES

Ballou read a prepared statement: The selection of Superintendent to lead our district is a very detailed process. It takes many hours of hard work and dedication. I would like to thank the members of the screening committee and let them know how much the Board appreciates their willingness to serve in such a critical role in the superintendent selection process. They spent a lot of time and effort in order to recommend the names of applicants to the Board, and they did a great job. The committee members were Barry Nesbitt, Michelle Meredith, Eric Self, Ronnie Cobb, Sheldon Ballou and Becky Garmon. The Board was pleased to have three quality candidates to consider for the position of superintendent. All three were highly qualified and professional. Each finalist had specific strengths to bring to the district making our decision very hard. Looking for the person that was the best fit for our district, recognizing the importance of school culture, and increasing student achievement has been and will continue to be a priority for our Board. Each of us is committed to achieving excellence and assuring that the children entrusted to us are prepared to succeed for life.

97. APPOINTMENT OF SUPERINTENDENT

Motion by Ballou, Seconded by Wilson that Cornelius Faulkner be named as Superintendent of Caverna Independent School District contingent on a contract being negotiated and agreed upon. In addition this motion would direct the Board chair, with the assistance of Board legal counsel, to prepare a contract as agreed upon with Mr. Faulkner and ratified by this board.

98. ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Hatcher, Seconded by Wilson to Adjourn the meeting.

The September 30, 2014 Special Called Meeting of the Caverna Board of Education was adjourned at 6:49 P.M.
