Job Description
Job Title: CustodianExemption Status: Non-Exempt

Primary Function: Under the direction of the Pastor, School Principal or other assigned manager is responsible for performing janitorial services and light maintenance in a parish, school or other facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the Church’s spiritual and pastoral mission
- Shall abide by Catholic principles in the employee’s professional and private life, and shall govern his/her professional and private life in strict accordance with Catholic morals and principles to demonstrate complete adherence to Catholic moral strictures;
- Develop a cleaning schedule to assure the Church or school is clean and maintained in an orderly fashion
- Perform general custodial duties to include cleaningand light maintenance of the parish or school facilities
- Assist grounds person on an “as needed” basis
- Perform scheduled monthly, semi-annual, or annual janitorial duties, ie, floor waxing, painting, window washing, carpet cleaning, etc. as directed and in accordance with the parish maintenance schedule
- Provide set-up and cleaning of facilities for all activities as directed
- Maintain a supply of cleaning supplies and equipment; properly account for materials and equipment
- Maintain security of buildings, equipment, and tools
- Comply with safety regulations as required; maintain a safe working environment
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical/Mental Requirements: Requires coordination and manual dexterity; normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift as required in a normal maintenance environment
Required Activities: Walking: sitting; standing; stooping; reaching; talking; handling; hearing; carrying; and climbing ladders.
Basic Qualifications:
- Must have a working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of the Diocese and Catholic Church; must be in full communion with the Catholic Church
- Excellent communications skills, verbal and written; excellent human relations and interpersonal skills
- Exercise courtesy to fellow employees, parishioners and the public
- Must be a self-starter;well organized; perform multiple taskssimultaneously and work with a sense of urgency
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; punctuality is a must; ability to travel locally as required; weekend and overtime work may be required
- Working familiarity with computer technology
- Ability to successfully pass a background, criminal history, and credit history check
- Possess a valid Arizona driver’s license
- Be able to read directions and label safety warnings. Must be safety-conscious
- Knowledge, skills and experience in handling janitorial equipmentand maintenance tools
- Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance
Education and Experience:
- High school graduate or equivalent education
- 1 years’ experience in a commercial or private maintenance, janitorial or similar position
Other/Preferred Skills
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred
