BENEFITS SPECIALIST

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Under general supervision, administers Health and Welfare benefit programs and internal programs of a complex nature which include vendor management, processing of administrative and claim invoices and enrollment maintenance for employees in HRIS (Workday).
  • Prepares benefit premium reconciliations for employees who missed premium deductions during leaves of absences (Disability/Furlough).
  • Provide various forms of assistance directly to employees in understanding and utilizing assigned benefit programs.
  • Functions as a key team member during annual benefit enrollment process by coordinating tasks with benefits team, payroll and HRIS; updating the project task list; answering questions; providing guidance to benefits staff and ensuring adherence to assigned task.
  • Trained as the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) backup for delivered Workday updates and Annual Open Enrollment.
  • Performs testing to ensure accurate plan and process set up in HRIS.
  • Assists in the maintenance of benefit-related data in HRIS.
  • Assists in the development of benefits communication materials and reviews with Benefits Team.
  • Participates in team cross training to gain further knowledge of benefits programs and compliance with applicable government regulations.
  • Maintains Federal/local compliance for programs and plans.
  • Reviews Summary Plan Descriptions to ensure administration concurs with Plan Document and prepares drafts of Summary Material Modifications for plan amendments.
  • Recommends plan design and process improvement to manager.
  • Completes discrimination testing for 125 Cafeteria Plan.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Two year college degree or demonstrated equivalent experience as determined by department management.
  • Three or more years of benefits administration experience.
  • Experience using Workday is a plus.
  • Requires ability to describe complex information in layman's terms to communicate with employees and vendors to educate on company policy, benefit programs and resolution of claim issues.
