Synergistic Activities

·  Developed a capstone course for Land Resources and Environmental Science seniors (at MSU) with students conducting research on wildfire impacts on forest soil systems, and presenting their results to Forest Service land manager, the university community, and at regional meetings.

·  Advised five Undergraduate Scholars students at Montana State University, one of whom presented her research on AM function in Yellowstone thermal soil environments at the 2002 ESA meetings in Tucson, Arizona.

·  Directed NSF-funded GRT, 1997-1999 for The University of Montana Division of Biological Sciences, and successfully led efforts to recruit American Indian students.

·  Organized workshop for The University of Montana on Recruitment and Retention of Native American students, with national and regional leaders in Native American education.

·  Worked with Salish Kootenai College and The University of Montana, to develop the NSF-funded UMEB (Undergraduate Mentoring in Environmental Biology) program.
