JOHN R. PATTON DIES AT 82 YEARS OF AGE

This obituary was in an issue of the Casey County News. It was glued in a scrapbook that was kept from the late 1940s through around 1960. The following is a transcript of the text of that newspaper article. (no date or reference available on this item)

Title: John R. Patton Dies at 82 Years of Age

John R. Patton died at home near Pellyton last Friday afternoon following a serious illness of the past two months. He was 82 years old.

He was married to Josephine Brown early in life and they became the parents of 8 children, 6 of whom survive. Those surviving are Okla and Cecil of Dunnville, Tilman of Louisville, Lonzie, Ira, and Earl all of Cincinnati, and Mrs. Marie Absher of Creston. His wife to this marriage, one daughter, Mrs. Gertha Dye, and one infant son preceded him in death.

Eighteen years ago he was married to Josephine Johnson, who survives. Also surviving are 6 half brothers, 2 half sisters, 18 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. The brothers and sisters surviving are Ben of Cincinnati, Billy of Dunnville, Martin and Mrs. Belle McPhearson of Louisville, Haley and Luther of Tennessee, Jake of Clementsville and Mrs. Della Greg of Virginia.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wilmer Ellis, at 1:00 o’clock Sunday at the Pellyton Baptist Church with burial in the Pellyton Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Gosser Funeral Home.
