Sensory Map Requirements
(max. 3single-spaced pages; Times New Roman 12-point font)
Each group will develop a map (or maps) to display the sensory data they collected in the field and characterize the study area. Possible purposes include assessment of the impact of the scents and sounds on the local residents, tracing scents or sounds to their sources, and comparing and contrasting the sensory environments of two different study areas. The maps should be based on the aerial image used when collecting field data, but the aerial image does not need to be included as part of the final map.
Use the formats .rtf, .doc, .docx, or .pdffor electronic upload to a file drop or email, and turn in a hardcopy on the day the assignment is due. Expect to share your results with the class.
- Required Elements
The map should include a title, a scale, a north arrow, a key to any symbols used, the date created, a brief explanation of the purpose of the mapand the intended audience, and a list of the authors.

Is the data presented in a manner that is easy to understand? Does the information presented support the stated intent of the map?Is the data presented in a manner that characterizes the data accurately? Will the map make sense to the intended audience? Does the map contain important landmarks (such as roads, prominent buildings or other features) to help the viewer understand the location of the study area? Does the map include features important to the study such as possible sources of smells and sounds detected, relevant environmental conditions, and potentially impacted populations? Does the map contain distracting details that may confuse the viewer or obscure important information?
