I. Call to order 8:00am

  • 2017 Financials are not updated and ready to be presented. Michelle W. is working on it and will provide to our board. Michelle L. and Nikole will work on getting them updated and switched to an accounting program for better ease and tracking purposes.
  • Test Sessions (Inform) next test session (11/10/17), status of registrations, judges & volunteers.

Want to bring awareness to our kids that there is more to skating than just IJS. We have a dynamic Coaching staff with skills in Theatre (Lisa), Syncro (Lynette), Dance (Sheila), and Off-Ice (Raelani).

Also want to share information on what is being done and seen at test sessions across the Region.

  • Freestyle Sessions- The trust system is not working well. We are often with 2-3 more skaters on the ice than what we have signed in for. To improve this, the rink is going to offer “Unlimited Monthly” Freestyle passes for a fee to be determined. They will go on sale the first week of December and a 20% “holiday” discount will be provided during the initial week of sales. The fee will be based on what the coaches deem is a reasonable amount of time a skater needs to skate to progress and on what other rinks charge.
  • New Coaches joining- Rachel (last name?) and Mina Doan will be joining as a Jr Coach. Tia will be leaving December 1 to coach in Kirkland.
  • Puerto Rico Fundraiser- Ana Lucia’s mom Agnes is from Puerto Rico and her family has been displaced due to the hurricane. The island is in desperate need of assistance, and we are going to see if we can partner with Agnes’s sister to provide relief. At Inspirations on Ice event, we will join with the rink to ask for minimum donations or a donated item on a list that is needed
  • Athlete’s Committee (Inform) Alyssa
  • Banquet- Skaters have approached her to inquire when and where will it be. Last year’s banquet was a success and we would like to have similar showing.

January/ February 2018 will be National Skating Months so we would like to host the banquet in January.

Goal is to have all Coaches present so we want to subsidize the cost of the Coaches.

Kim is also working on a program to hand out at the banquet, which will highlight all our skaters’ accomplishments this season.

Skaters have been requesting additional Club merchandise other than the jacket. We would like to consider sweatshirts, sweatpants, decals, etc., as this could be great revenue for the club.

Alyssa has been successful in finding volunteer help amongst her peers by reaching out through Social Media. If we need anything, she is willing to assist and post.

(Kim) There is an increase in youth volunteers for Learn to Skate. We like minimum of 13 years of age due to the mobility behaviors of the young Learn to Skate participants. Without a parent present, we need the volunteers to be 14 years old.

III. Current Business [8:20 – 8:30]

  • Status of vote on Articles & Bylaws (Inform, discuss & decide) Molly
  • Special Meeting November 10. We currently have 75 adult members. We need 2/3 of the members to attend and 51% needs to vote to approve the Articles of Incorporation, then the updated Bylaws. If we fall short on attendance, we will then resort to contacting 100% of our members and have them sign off on approval.

Coaches have the list of all members. They have been tasked with contacting and encouraging their skaters’ parents to let them know of the mandatory meeting. We will also be providing flyers for the coaching staff to pass out.

Meeting will present on the By-Law Articles along with the “why.”

Michelle suggested we have a calling tree where each board member contacts (x) amount of parents to inform them by phone. Stacey K suggested we have a phone script and use a system like schools use to do a mass blast.

Stacey K., Michelle L., and Nikole will get together Friday, October 27th to put together invitations to give to the coaches to pass on to their students parents.

IV. New Business [8:30 – 9:00]

  • Equipment Request (inform, discuss & decide) Raelani
  • Need to buy new equipment for Off-Ice practice- HANDOUT passed out by Raelani.

Harness for girls to practice and get comfortable with rotations.

  1. Need a gym mat to hang by bleachers so girls will not hit bleachers.
  2. New harness could go in the hallway between party rooms and locker rooms. Molly offered to help install the equipment as its similar to what she utilizes.

Slide board to build stability and core strength.

TRX soft plyometric

Other items: Yoga mats, strength bands, ice skating spinners

Storage needed

  • (Alyssa) requested an “open” gym and Kim said we could look at a seasonal gym as all rooms right now are occupied.
  • (Nancy) inquired if we could find sponsors to discount or donate what we need. Raelani said she could look in to that.
  • Need to bring all of this to “vote” on in November.
