Terms of Reference

Purpose

A collaboratively developed, widely accepted, and coherent understanding and approach for how CASC educationstandards intersects with standards for recognition as an education program by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)

Term

At the end of a 2 year term, the need of this Committee to continue and its Terms of Reference will be reviewed by CASC Ontario Council who will make any necessary changes.

Functions and Duties

  1. Review and compare the competencies and requirements for registration in the CRPO as Registered Psychotherapist with CASC education standards for Specialist.
  1. Identify consistencies for education standards
  2. Identify inconsistencies / gaps for education standards
  3. Identify CASC standards that articulate standards not included in the CRPO standards, as a base for articulating a “Specialty Title”.
  1. Compare the CASC Accreditation standards and the standards for Recognition as an Education Program with CRPO
  2. Identify common standards for education
  3. Identify standards within the CRPO requirements not included in CASC standards and develop a plan for how to meet these standards.
  4. Identify CASC Accreditation standards for which there are no matches in CRPO requirements and affirm these distinct standards as essential for CASC education centers.
  1. Articulate changes needed to CASC Education Standards and recommend to the Education Standards Commission draft changes to standards that enable congruency with CRPO requirements.
  2. Identify potential changes to the Education Standards, including Academic Assessment standards
  3. Identify potential changes to the Education Standards for Certification as Specialist
  4. Identify potential changes to Accreditation Standards
  1. Discuss the merits and draft a plan for submitting to CRPO an Application for Recognition as an educational program by the SPE centers in Ontario.
  2. Discuss and draft a common progressive curriculum for PCE and CPE
  3. Discuss and plan how Teaching Supervisors will collaborate.
  4. Consult with Universities and Colleges about collaborative approaches to education
  5. Articulate means by which other requirements for recognition will be fulfilled.
  1. Ensure Specialists and Teaching Supervisors (including Provisional, Associate and Full) in Ontario have regular opportunities to be involved in these discussions and recommendations.

Membership

  1. Three representatives from ESC, ideally one from each Ontario region
  2. Teaching Supervisors (one from each stream of PCE and CPE)
  3. Specialists (one from each stream of PCE and CPE)
  4. One committee member, who is also a member of ESC, if not already on the CASC Ontario Council, will be appointed as adhoc member by the Council
  5. May include additional ad hoc members as needed
  6. Chair of the Committee will be chosen from within the Committee.

Relationships

  • Consulting relationship with CASC Academic Assessment Committee
  • Reporting relationship with the CASC Ontario Council
  • Consulting relationship with the CASC Accreditation Committee
  • Reporting/consulting relationship with the Education Standards Commission.
  • Corresponding relationship with Alliance of Psychotherapy Training Institutes (APTI) through CASC members on APTI
  • Corresponding relationship with Ontario Alliance of Mental Health Practitioners through CASC members
  • Communication with the CRPO.

Meetings

  1. Meetings will be facilitated through use of OTN videoconference / teleconference when possible
  2. Face to face meetings of working groups may be necessary
