JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: District Technology Professional Development Coach/District Webmaster
RANGE: (Own Salary Schedule)
A. PRIMARY FUNCTION
Under general direction of the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. Will provide and organize a working model of professional development for staff in the area of instructional technology. Will design, maintain and update school and district web sites.
B. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Professional Development Coach:
(a) Provide training to teachers in the use of current technology to meet curriculum goals.
(b) Model and demonstrate effective instructional practices and appropriate classroom management strategies.
(c) Develop training materials.
(d) Design classroom-based assessments.
(e) Run assessment reports using district-adopted software such as Edusoft and assist teachers and administrators in interpreting them.
(f) Provide training to staff in computer competencies as defined by the California EdTech Profile.
(g) Assist teachers in writing individualized professional development plans.
(h) Assist principals with instructional technology professional development planning for their building.
(i) Coordinate and collect data on staff progress toward state technology competencies (EdTech Profile).
(j) Create and maintain a web interface to all of the instructional technology materials for staff use and support.
2. District Web Webmaster:
(a) Design and maintain appealing web sites.
(b) Modify and update the content. Keep current and remove outdated content.
(c) Present a consistent visual image on the web by promoting uniform fonts, formatting, icons, images, layout techniques and modularization including maintenance of web page templates.
(d) Create and assure the functionality of the links, on-line forms, surveys and scripts running behind web sites.
(e) Produce digital images for use on the web site, including photographs and graphics.
(f) Assure pages served from the web site will look consistent on most browsers.
(g) Maintain and update web server.
(h) Troubleshoot and provide routine maintenance of web page.
(i) Develop new features for the district’s web site; research, evaluate and test new software, tools and hardware related to web sites.
(j) Monitor and analyze web site traffic and prepare statistical reports accordingly.
(k) Convert files between various formats including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheet, Powerpoint, Adobe PDF, and HTML.
(l) Configure and administer users’ web publishing rights to the District’s public site and Intranet.
(m) Administer the District’s web site filtering program; update the library with the addition or removal of web site URLs as requested by administrators.
(n) Provide support, training and service to users for the web and related applications.
(o) Develop documentation and training materials relating to school and district web sites.
3. General:
(a) Gather information documenting the effectiveness of the web site and technology professional development program; interpret this information, and provide constructive input for improvement.
(b) Coordinate work with the Director of Curriculum, Director of Educational Technology and Network Administrator.
(c) Coordinate and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other District departments, departments and sites.
(d) Communicate with school and district personnel, parents, and community to share information about the web site and the technology professional development program.
(e) Participate in the District Technology committee.
(f) Attend and conduct meetings related to assignment.
(g) Engage in ongoing training to keep skills current and as needed for the job.
(h) Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
C. QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education and experience
(a) Valid teaching credential supplemented by specialized computer courses and 3 to 5 years related experience.
2. Knowledge of:
(a) Web browsing and enhancement tools, utilities and applications.
(b) Web server functions, configuration tools and procedures.
(c) Web authoring tools, including current Web languages such as HTML, DHTML, XML, and JavaScript.
(d) Web content management systems.
(e) Editing, publishing and modifying Web content.
(f) Some or all of the following: Web authoring software tools, such as Allaire HomeSite, Dreamweaver, GoLive and/or Microsoft Front Page; multimedia development tools, office suite software, server management software. Graphic design software such as: Photoshop, PaintShop Pro, Image Ready, and/or Fireworks.
(g) Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
(h) Appropriate uses of technology for instruction in various subject areas.
(i) Multimedia, telecommunications, and popular software packages used for word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
(j) Computer technology, multiple hardware platforms, and network architecture.
(k) California student and teacher computer competency requirements.
(l) Current literature, trends and developments in the field of instructional technology.
(m) Federal, state, and local policies and procedures regarding instructional technology.
(n) General knowledge of the principles of supervision, organization and administration.
(o) General knowledge of the ethical guidelines applicable to the position as outlined by professional standards and/or federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.
3. Ability To:
(a) Troubleshoot hardware and software problems, PC/MAC operating systems and server operations.
(b) Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make recommendations for improvements.
(c) Develop long term goals and objectives.
(d) Organize and deliver staff development opportunities that support the use of technology in education.
(e) Exercise independent judgment in making technical decisions.
(f) Maintain complete and accurate records and to develop meaningful reports.
(g) Effectively express ideas orally in and writing.
(h) Establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
D. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Incorporated within one or more of the essential functions of this position are the following
essential physical requirements.
1. Ability to see for purposes of reading instructions, labels and other printed matter and for
the safe operation of equipment.
2. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels in person and/or on the telephone.
3. Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation in person and/or on the telephone.
4. Ability to operate a computer, typewriter, calculator, copy machine, telephone and other office related equipment with dexterity and in a safe and efficient manner.
5. Ability to routinely lift/carry equipment supplies and printed materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
6. Driver’s License and car required.
E. WORKING CONDITIONS:
School /District office working environment subject to bending, crouching or kneeling to assist individuals, pushing/pulling and lifting of instructional equipment and supplies, sitting on chairs and/or floor and learning over work areas for prolonged periods of time and reaching in all directions.
