POSITION PURPOSE

The Advocacy and Research Analyst supports theAdvocacy and Research team to deliver high quality advocacy, research, analysis and education work on social justice issues both globally and locally. In the role, you will encourage the participation of the Catholic community in Caritas programmes. You will work closely with the Community Engagement team to ensure work synergies are recognised and effectively utilised.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Advocacy and Research

  • Supporting the work of the Advocacy and Research teamin advocating and researching for justice and peace, in order to bring about positive social change through education and advocacy work on key justice issues
  • Supporting with the preparation and production of Caritas submissions and social justice resources, as determined by Caritas advocacy priorities and in consultation & guidance with the Advocacyand Research Manager
  • Supporting the work of Caritas in strengthening the Catholic social justice network within New Zealand and internationally, and actively involving Catholics in working for justice and peace.

Relationship Management

  • Liaising as required with Māori Catholics about cultural matters, to ensure advocacy work is well informed by Māori reo, tikanga and experiences including appropriate use of Te Reo Māori in resources
  • Contributing to furthering the relationship and advocacy objectives with Māori Catholic within New Zealand, as determined in consultation with the Research and Advocacy Manager
  • Liaising with Māori Catholic groups and ethnic chaplaincies about cultural matters, including the appropriate use of Te Reo Māori in Caritas resources.

Raising Awareness

  • Facilitating cooperation between Catholic social justice networks.

Projects

  • Supporting the Advocacy and Research team in the preparation for and promotion of the annual Social Justice Week.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL

  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • Has some experience in working in a Social Justice agency or other NGO’s
  • Experience of New Zealand political decision making processes
  • Understanding and commitment to Catholic Social Teaching
  • Commitment to the vision, mission and values of Caritas
  • Commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi
  • Awareness ofte reo Māori and TikangaMāori
  • Ability to accept responsibility and work within a small team context
  • Strong writing and research skills
  • Comfortable with information technology, including Microsoft Word skills and internet search skills.

DESIRABLE
