Careers in Forensic Science Project

You will:

  1. Select a career to research.
  2. Research information about that career using the Internet, books and other sources both during class time and at home in order to answer the questions below.
  3. Create a large Want Ad that will include the information you learned during your research.
  4. Present a summary of your research to the class.

After answering the attached questions, you will use that information to create a want ad. The ad will include the following sections:

  1. Position
  2. Job description- 4-6 sentences elaborating on what you’ve learned.
  3. Location
  4. Education required
  5. Salary
  6. Job availability
  7. Criminal connection
  8. 3-5 labeled pictures of tools/equipment used by people in that field
  9. Bibliography- attached to back of poster or on a separate sheet

(Please review the poster rubric to ensure that you have all information complete and in the proper format.)

The information on the ad should be neat, typed,and grammatically correct and should be easy to read from a few feet away.

  1. Is this a field where there is a demand for a large number of new individuals or just a few? Explain why this is true. Make sure to also identify how you determined your answer.

VII. Crime Connection:

  1. Describe a crime that was solved at least in part as a result of someone working in your selected field. Include the date, location, name of victim, name of suspect(s), a description of the crime and criminal, and how it was solved using the information from the experts in your field.

VIII. Tools/equipment used

  1. What kinds of tools do people in this field use? Find 3 to 5 good pictures of these tools and print them out or write their web addresses below. What does this tool help a forensic scientist do? Make sure you can explain this to the class during your presentation. There won’t be enough room to put this on your poster, but make sure you have this information handy to share with the class.

  1. Make sure that you are keeping track of your sources as you go about your research. Type this up and attach it to the back of your Want Ad.
