CBC/Course Framework: Career Preparation A
CTE Standards and Benchmarks the student will be able to:
Standard 3: Analyze personal skills, interest and abilities and relate them to current career opportunities.
  1. Participate in assessments that identify personal areas of interest and aptitude, including utilizing results to develop a four-year high school educational plan.
  2. Explore individual career options from the 16 National Career Clusters to examine specific job descriptions, requirements, salaries, and employment outlooks.
Standard 6: Examine the employment process, including searching for a job, filling out a job application, writing a resume, developing and practicing interview skills, and completing required employment forms (e.g. W-4, I-9)
Standard 7: Generate an electronic portfolio using digital tools, (student bio, career plan A and Career plan B, Activities and Hobbies) including interest, aptitude and skills confidence assessment results, academic research (college bound activity), 4 year-high school educational plan;
  1. Utilize word processing software to demonstrate professional writing skills by producing and editing business and personal correspondence documents.
Standard 13: Utilize an online learning management system to engage in collaborative learning projects, discussions, and assessments beyond the traditional classroom that are goal oriented, focused, project based, and inquiry oriented. Examples: Moodle, Edmodo, Blackboard, Canvas, Google Classroom.

Title of Lesson: College Bound
Objective: To teach creative thinking, problem solving, self-management, reasoning, integrity and honesty when analyzing post-secondary education for careers based on Kuder Interest Assessment and Skills Confidence results.
Daily Activities: College Bound Activity; students will research types of postsecondary schools associated with student career choice based on interest assessment and skills confidence. Students will save their 5 choices for future learning. Students will complete part 1 of the activity which includes their top 5 college choice and the following information:
  • College name
  • Admission office or person of contact name
  • Admissions office address state, city and zip code, telephone number
  • Email address if listed.
Save the document for future use. (Students will select the top two colleges and write a letter to request information about the college.

How to address the letter of request to the Director of Admissions Venita King, Save the document.Review and finalize 4-year plan in Kuder and submit for approval.
