Delta-T Group Continues its Support of CREC Athletics
(Hartford, CT) CREC recently received a donation of $2,000 from the Delta-T Group, the third generous donation from the company to support CREC’s Interscholastic Athletics Program. Delta-T Group is a national broker and referral service for specialized healthcare professionals. The company’s local site is located in Rocky Hill.
Last year, CREC Schools embarked on an ambitious plan to provide sports programing to the more than 3,500 secondary school-aged students in CREC’s middle and high schools. In 2012, CREC began with middle school athletics, this year the program added junior varsity athletics, and next year, the program will expand to varsity sports. A unique feature of the program is that it does not use the common “pay-to-play” system, in which students and families must contribute financially in order to participate. Equity of access is core to CREC Schools’ mission, so the generous support of donations such as the one provided by Delta-T are essential to keeping the program running.
Delta-T Group’s relationship with CREC began when the company’s staffing services provided CREC with well-trained and experienced specialists and paraprofessionals for its schools in the Greater Hartford area. Recognizing the benefits of the work that CREC does for children and families, Joshua Plourde, Delta-T Group’s Hartford Affiliate Administrator, looked for a way to further assist the organization.
In the spring of 2012, Delta-T Group made its first donation to the athletics program, providing funding for the schools’ basketball jerseys. After seeing the success of the program among CREC students and families, Plourde and his team decided to continue their support. Their recent donation was presented to CREC’s Superintendent of Schools, Dina Crowl, and student-athletes and staff from CREC’s Two Rivers Magnet School.
“Michelle, Brian and I had a chance to visit Two Rivers School,” explained Plourde. “We spent some time with four student-athletes who gave us a tour of the school and shared with us their respective sports. Seeing the young men and women athletes beaming as they shared with us how they have benefited from Delta-T Group’s donation brings us joy as an organization. We are very proud to support such a wonderful program as this.”
Studies have shown that participation in school sports helps enhance self-esteem and develops social and physical skills within a reasonably competitive environment. CREC’s Athletics Program currently offers its middle and high school students the opportunity to participate in cross country, soccer, basketball, track and field, baseball, softball and Ultimate Frisbee. Next year, the program will add volleyball and junior varsity football.
Donations to the CREC Foundation contribute to CREC’s overall mission of improving the quality of public education for all learners. If you are interested in making a donation to the CREC Athletics Program, please visit: http://www.crec.org/donate/.
