SNA LAC – WHAT’S NEW FOR 2013!
Capitol Hill Congressional Reception
We are very excited about the new Congressional Reception to be held on Tuesday, March 5, 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM, on Capitol Hill. This reception will be an excellent opportunity for LAC attendees to meet and mingle with Members of Congress and their staff, allowing for a more casual setting to discuss the importance of providing access to affordable and nutritious school meals. The event will take place in the historic Cannon Caucus Room, located in the House Cannon Office Building. Completed in 1908, the Caucus Room is the most ornate space built for the House of Representatives outside the House Chamber and has seen many historical events. We are honored to be able to hold our SNA Reception and we encourage you all to extend invitations to your Members of Congress and child nutrition staff during your visits.
2013 Pre-Con Session
This year, we are offering an exciting Pre-Conference session focused on operator training for menu planning. The session is scheduled for 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, March 2 and is called, “Tools for Training on Creating Healthy Meals that Kids Will Eat.” Panelists from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Food Service Management Institute (NFSMI) will provide tools on how to train staff on planning menus that appeal to students, communicating with the parents and the local community, and creating an atmosphere where kids want to choose the healthier menu choices. You will walk out of the session with the tools and resources needed to help your program meet the new meal pattern but also how best to encourage kids to try the unfamiliar. The goal is to help you work towards the best school nutrition program possible. We hope you can join us for this exciting session!
