Canterbury Musical Parenting Association Inc.
WHAT IS MUSICAL PARENTING?
The Canterbury Musical Parenting Association is a group of parents, early childhood teachers, music and movement teachers, grandparents, caregivers, anyone wishing to foster creativity and musical confidence in children.
Our challenge as Musical Parenting members is to develop a comprehensive programme of music that challenges and inspires our children to listen, move, sing, create & appreciate music of all kinds & to listen to the sounds of nature with sensitivity & wonder, while they experience musical play.
Musical play* is a special sharing of discovery between parent and child. Just as children benefit from a creative music programme, adults can share this joy and reawaken the child within.
AIMS & OBJECTIVES:
To foster a love of music of all kinds
To help parents feel confident and enthusiastic in sharing music with their children
To offer support to parents of children with special needs
To uphold the “Taonga” Sharing of the Treasures as in the Treaty of Waitangi.
To make music an integral part of everyday life within the larger community.
CMPA MEETINGS:
Meetings to share ideas & songs are held on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 7.30pm. Sadly we no longer meet in the Christchurch Music Centre due to the Canterbury earthquakes. At present we are meeting are in members homes.
Additional workshops are held throughout the year and include international experts in various fields, including early childhood development and music therapy.
A list of Music and Movement Classes around the Canterbury Region is available on our website:
