Candidate Qualifications:

Gabriele Schedl has been Safety Director at Frequentis and thus responsible for System Safety, Reliability Engineering, and Compliance & Approvals Engineering since 1999. She established and promoted a Safety Management System in a company in central Europe, where structured system safety was not well known at that time and still is not as common as in the Anglo-American region. This includes the founding of the department, definition of safety processes, comprehensive trainings and a company-wide hazard tracking system.

She holds an Engineering Degree and a Master of Science (Dipl.-Ing.) in Electrical Engineering (from the University of Technology, Vienna) and finished a post-graduate education in business computer science and several safety courses at the University of York and the University of Southern California.

She is experienced in conducting Safety and RAM Analyses for different projects in the fields of Air Traffic Control (military and civil) and Railway Systems. Additionally she is internal safety trainer, internal auditor and Certified Supervisory Expert (CSE).

She also substantially influenced the way to structured education in system safety, both within Frequentis as well as at the University of Applied Sciences FH Campus Wien and at the Danube University Krems. In addition she promoted system safety with many papers, tutorials and presentations at the ISSC, the Safety Critical Systems Symposium, the Aviation Symposium in Vienna and e.g. keynote speeches at the Safety Day 2012 and 2014 at FH Campus Wien. She was the invited International Luncheon speaker at the ISSC in San Diego, 2015.

Gabriele Schedl has initiated and substantially contributed to the Vienna Institute for Safety and System Engineering (VISSE) at FH Campus Wien over the last years. She also holds several permanent safety related lectures at this university. She is member of the faculty of Professional MBA Aviation which is held at the Danube University in Austria where she gives safety lectures.

She acts as Regional Vice President Europe of the International System Safety Society, to promote system safety in Europe. Gabi is also in active collaboration with safety experts from universities and businesses in various countries and she received the Manager of the Year Award in 2014.
