Masters’ Dinner

January 31, 2015

(“Anything Goes”)

Ah Sewickley………..

Let’s look back at our hunting year

And see just how we landed here

And give our masters a rousing cheer!

Ah, Sewickley….

All our foibles we’ll now recount

‘cluding those who fell off their mount

That is what our song’s about………………

This year we saw pre-cubbing advertised

It would be slow and careful

We all surmised

We were surprised!

In polo shirtswe all went flying

The hounds were “all in” and crying

It was a blast

Boy was it fast!

Seems Dana thought it’d be a slower pace

How could she know it’d be

a mostrousing run?

Her hunt was soon done!

Our hunter pace, another great success

Our planning team and helpers,

Well they’re the best!

We all can attest!

Well my Rosie mare

Gave me quite a scare

Threw me in the air

Didn’t have a prayer

All the people there

Well they stood and stared

At my bucking buckaroo!

And Rosie, well I sent her packing

‘Cause manners she sure was lacking

I hunted“Blue”

(Cindy always comes through!)

One afternoon we killed at Komers’

While Bev chatted on her cell phone, her

Horse did drop

Bev didn’t stop

The whole hunt field cried

“Save your saddle!”

But Beverly wasn’t rattled

She chatted on

And on and on and on and on……….

Our Heather lost her seat, came off her horse

Right at those jumps by S’wickley Heights

Golf Club course

She had remorse

Our Susie got a bit light-headed

She planned on a hunt, instead it

Became a slog

On foot through the bogs.

Anne, Meg, Val & Joan

Set out on their own

Val Jean fixed a flat

Joan, she found a rat

While out in Sedona

(That’s in Arizona)

Master Diane

Took her team

They galloped after wild coyotes

The fastest fox hunt the ladies

Had ever done

They had great fun!

The year was tough on our dear masters

Their horses had near disasters

We’re sad to tell

But they are all well

Andy’s Monty sank down in a ditch

Anne’s Timmy, by the iron bridge

He was stuck

Deep in the muck.

Bonny rode the hunt at Snugg’ry Farm,

happy, and not expecting

to come to harm,

She broke her arm!

She led Karina to the jump but her

horse popped it, she was dumped

And that was the reason

She ended her season.

S’rah took Romeo

But a branch too low

Where he couldn’t go

It was like limbo

She couldn’t duck and so

She fell to ground although

She climbed right back up on

That night we dined with Anne and Casey

Their soups they were very tasty

Heard Sarah’s tale

Over cocktails!

Christmas started at Spring Hollow

Disaster was soon to follow

When tangled vines

Got Annie entwined

Well Annie’s not inclined to panic

Like Diane, she’s not hysteric

She just lay down

‘Til Val’s knife was found.

Thoughmost of us just watched and stood and stayed

Missy and Sarah get accolades

went for aid

We all “hoorayed!”

But Bev, who stepped into the breach, she soon

found herself trapped down underneath

Annie’s weight

It seemed a grim fate!

We are pleased to tell

That Bev’s friend Michelle

She’s a gal so swell

Without parallel

She performed so well

And all our fears she quelled

As she tugged on that vine!

And Beverly was extricated

The hunt field was all elated

Crisis averted!

No medics alerted!

The only other fall that Christmas ride

Came when a fancy saddle pad

Took a slide

Off Black Jack’s side

Dutch, he took a sudden spookand then

Lauren was off, then on again

Had a good laugh

At that silly gaffe.

Our Brian took a corner on Cody

So sharply and Cody showed he

Couldn’t stay erect

And so Brian wrecked.

He rang his bell and was a bit confused

What’s worse, his ribs were bruised

But he soldiered on!

He’s a phenomenon

Harris ‘n Henry Block

They had quite a shock

When they made a trek

They forgot to check

And the hunt at Doug’s

It had just been scrubbed

That very afternoon!

But they’re too nice to voice objection,

They ordered reverse direction

Said, “what the heck!”

And didn’t object.

Megan Daniels, like her father: bold

Tried out her brand new three-year old

Took a chance

And hunted Lance.

He did well by Miss Meg’s account, he did

slip once and Meg had to remount

On a hill

A minor spill.

Horse show service: hospital-

ity! Coffee cart unlike any

You’ll ever see

Drinks were all free

And this was not just juice & coffee;

Mimosas and Bloody Marys

Were met with glee

Served by Nancy!

Our teas were great

We appreciate

The great food we ate

We don’t exaggerate

When we say “first rate”

No one could duplicate

Your gener-os-ity

And so we know that we don’t overstate

Saying this year was best to-date

All agree

Hurrah, Sewickley!
