CANDIDATE INFORMATION –N.M.A.H.A. BOARD TERM 2011-2013

Name: Stepheny Kohlrust

Occupation: Lincolm Middle School Educational Technology Specialist

Do you anticipate your child/children will play Rec. or Comp. during your 2-year term?

I have one son that will try out to play Competitive/Travel hockey and one son that will play recreactional hockey.

Division(s) your child/children will be in during your term:

I will have one son that will be playing High School hockey for Rio Rancho and one year of Bantams. I have another son that will play peewee during the 2-year term.

Briefly state why you want to be a N.M.A.H.A. Board member and your goals/objectives:

I have been on the board for two years and would like to continue my service to NMAHA. During my first year I was the Director of Coaches and in my second year I was elected President by the Board. I have really enjoyed my time on the board and have learned a lot about the game of hockey, NMAHA and hockey within the State of New Mexico between the organizations (LOEHA).

I feel there are still things that I can bring to the association from my experience. One of my strengths is the ability to assess issues brought to the board by understanding the issue and looking at it within the guidelines of the association. I am not one to quickly judge, but to work through issues and using the team to help make the most informed decision based upon the organization's guidelines. This allows for the association to be consistent in how it is run. Another strength was my ability to delegate tasks to the board members in charge of the different divisions such that as president, I would not be the one governing, but supporting the decisions of those on the board that are in charge of said divisions such as HS Hockey or Comp Hockey or Director of Coaches. This allows those in charge of the divisions to assess issues without telling them what/how to do their jobs.

One of my goals/objectives is to continue improving better communication. Now that I have been on the board for two years and understand hockey and NMAHA more, if elected back, I would continue finding better ways to communcate information to coaches and parents. Another objective is to work on getting more parental involvement. We lose parental support as the players get older and the majority of the work required to run teams falls to the same willing few that step up to the tasks. We also successfully brought back travel/competive hockey to NMAHA. We have also taken a better stance with the Player and Parent Code of Conduct.

I feel my experience can benefit NMAHA and would like to continue serving the organization.
