CAMPBELL COUNTY NEEDS YOU!!!

Dear Partner in Education:

The increasing competitiveness of the global market and the shift to an information, service and technology-based economy has spawned a need for college and career-ready professionals. Campbell County School District is committed to ensuring our students have the 21st-century skills necessary to be college/career ready – the foundation for success in life. But we need your help.

Currently, the statewide college/career readiness rate of our high school students is a disappointing 38 percent. In spring 2011, we joined every school district in Kentucky in signing the Commonwealth Commitment – a pledge to increase the college/career-readiness of our high school students by 50 percent by 2015. Advising is one of several key strategies we are using to reach this goal.

In support of our efforts, the Kentucky Department of Education and the Department for Workforce Development have set aside the month of March, for Operation Preparation – a community-based advising initiative. During this month we will focus attention on the importance of advising and provide a powerful opportunity for schools, students, parents and communities to collaborate in the college- and career-planning process.

During Operation Preparation, trained volunteer community advisors will meet one-on-one with 8th-and 10th-grade students in a public setting at school. Using the student’s Individual Learning Plan (ILP) community advisors will talk with the student about the student’s career aspirations and required education/training; whether the student is on target to meet these goals; and whether the student is taking the courses recommended to prepare for a successful future.

We want to partner with you to create an environment in which all students are given the opportunity to reach their full potential. One way you can assist us is by encouraging your employees/members to volunteer a small amount of their time within the month of March to serve as an Operation Preparation community advisor. A free, brief, online training will be provided for your access when convenient for you. We value business and community engagement in our schools and are excited for you and your employees/members to participate as a supportive role model and mentor to children on the path to college/career readiness.

You will register here for any of the events you would like to assist with throughout the month of March. While we welcome ½ day volunteers, we prefer a full day commitment if you are able. Once we have received your registration, we will notify you of your assignment and any additional volunteer paperwork needed. Your support and employee/member participation will help ensure that all of our students are on target to be college career-ready and prepared for a successful future.REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS MARCH 1ST!

Please feel free to forward this information on to co-workers, family and friends who may be interested.

We look forward to working with you to make a difference in the lives of our children!

Sincerely,
