  1. WELCOME AND CALL TO ORDER

Mrs. Freeman called the meeting to order at 7:28 pm.

  1. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE/MOMENT OF SILENCE

Mrs. McDowell led the Pledge of Allegiance. There was a moment of silence.

  1. ROLL CALL

Board Members Present were: Helen Freeman, Bob Simbric, Kitty McDowell, Tim Roth and Christine Schneider

Others present were: Steve Highlen, Arizona School Board’s Association Consultant and Mary Hudson, Board/Administrative Assistant

  1. AGENDA REVIEW AND ACCEPTANCE

Motion: Mrs. McDowell moved, seconded by Mrs. Schneider to accept the agenda as presented. The motion carried 5-0.

  1. EXECUTIVE SESSION PURSUANT TO ARS 38-431.03 (A) (1) FOR PERSONNEL MATTERS: THE GOVERNING BOARD WILL REVIEW AND DISCUSS SUPERINTENDENT CANDIDATE INFORMATION

Arizona School Board’s Association Consultant Mrs. Highlen explained that the Board would not be entering executive session because the superintendent candidates were not properly notified.

There was not action taken on the Item.

  1. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION TO NAME A SPECIFIC CANDIDATE TO ENTER INTO CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS WITH FOR THE POSITION OF DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT

Mrs. Freeman read aloud the comment cards submitted by community members who attended the Public Forum regarding the Superintendent Search on Wednesday, June 3. Many people spoke in favor of Candidate Dr. Dennis Goodwin with Candidate Mrs. Lynette Michalski following closely behind. Mr. Highlen explained that Mrs. Michalski had accepted an offer from another district the day after the Public Forum. There was discussion on Dr. Goodwin’s display of professionalism, his approachability, his work history and his interview. Camp Verde Unified School District is the only district in which Dr. Goodwin applied to for a superintendent positionin Arizona, because he wanted to be here. Mrs. Freeman spoke about what Dr. Goodwin’sreferences had to say about him as Superintendent in New Richland, Minnesota; they did not want to lose him. There was discussion on Dr. Goodwin’s current salary and the need to have a fair and appropriate salary to offer him during contract negotiations.

Motion:After discussion, Mrs. McDowell moved, seconded by Mrs. Schneider to offer to enter into contract negations with Dennis Goodwin for the position of District Superintendent. The motion carried 5-0.

The Board took a recess at 7:59 pm.

The Board reconvened at 8:02 pm.

Mr. Highlen assisted Mrs. Freeman in contacting Dr. Goodwin by phone to let him know that the Board moved to enter into contract negotiations with him.

The Board will contact the District’s Attorney for assistance in drafting a contract during their June 9, 2015 meeting.

Motion: Mrs. Schneider moved, seconded by Mrs. McDowell to adjourn the meeting. The motion carried 5-0. The meeting adjourned at 8:11 pm.
