Cameron Indoor Tennis Center Manager/Teaching Professional

NATURE OF WORK

This is supervisory and professional work in managing the Cameron Indoor Tennis Facility and summer MRC tennis program, and coordinating and teaching tennis lessons and drills to the public.

Work includes planning, organizing, and directing a variety of tennis related activities, including, leagues, lessons, tournaments, clinics, and social events. Work also includes the day to day management of the facility, including the hiring, training, supervising and evaluating of tennis instructors and staff. This person will also work with the Minot Recreation Commission in introducing, recruiting, and promoting the sport of tennis to the community and surrounding area. Work will involve submitting the appropriate paperwork to the City, including daily deposits. Work includes organizing, hiring staff, and day to day supervision of the summer tennis program, along with any related tournaments and special events. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Recreation/Auditorium Director and is reviewed through conferences, observation and program effectiveness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF WORK (May not include all of the duties performed.)

Oversee year round indoor and outdoor tennis programming. Responsible for coordinating and scheduling all youth and adult leagues, lessons, and drills. Organize indoor and outdoor tennis tournaments. Organize clinics and special events to meet the needs of the users. Communicate, through weekly meetings, with the Recreation Coordinator regarding the programs. Responsible for ordering all equipment, t-shirts, and trophies relating to the tennis programs. Assist in the hiring, training and evaluation of part-time tennis instructors and facility staff. Provide appropriate training for part-time instructors and staff. Communicate with part-time staff, including periodic meetings, to assist them as needed and provide evaluations. Submit necessary information for the summer brochure. Prepares information for the media before events and provides them with results as appropriate.

Responsible for tennis ball machine operations and maintenance. Responsible for reporting court or facility maintenance to appropriateRecreation/Auditorium personnel. Responsible for racquets, balls, hoppers and any other equipment owned by the Minot Recreation Commission. Responsible for the overall safety of the program and its users.

Responsible to attend mandatory USTA/Northern meetings as required by the section as it relates to USTA sanctioned events as deemed necessary by the Minot Recreation Commission. Responsible for attending monthly MRC board meetings and reporting monthly progress and upcoming activities.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS OF WORK

Set up equipment, may include climbing, bending, and lifting, necessary to prepare for events.

Ability to due physical activity necessary to teach and coordinate all related tennis activities

REQUIREMENTS OF WORK

Considerable knowledge and ability to run year-round tennis programs, leagues, and tournaments

Considerable knowledge of the philosophy of the City and Minot Recreation Commission effort.

Considerable knowledge of the facilities, materials, and equipment used in tennis programs.

Considerable knowledge of the principles, rules and regulations used in recreational activities.

Thorough knowledge of the standard office procedures, effective practices and processes of the Minot Recreation Commission.

Ability to coordinate the activities and events of a large number of participants.

Ability to supervise the work of subordinate, part-time paid and volunteer individuals.

Ability to project future needs to assist with budgeting.

Ability to operate standard office equipment and computers.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and other employees.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

DESIRED MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from a four year college or university, with college level playing and or tournament experience preferred. Must have a USPTA or USPTR certification. Certified stringing preferred.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be bondable and insurable. Possession of a valid driver’s license.
