Georgia and the American Experience, Clairmont Press, 2005

Description:

In this class, you will learn about many aspects of the state of Georgia. We will look at the state of Georgia from its prehistoric past to its modern day accomplishments. We will survey its geography, its government, and its cultural heritage as outlined in the Georgia Performance Standards.

Goals:

Goal 1- Master the Georgia Performance Standards required by the state of Georgia.

Goal 2- Prepare for the rigors of completing your high school education.

Goal 3- Learn to ENJOY gaining knowledge about the past and learn how history has EVERYTHING to do with our present day living.

Requirements:

You are required to bring your Georgia History notebook, pen/pencil, and textbook to class every day unless instructed otherwise.

You are expected to keep a class notebook, correctly labeled by chapter and section. You will keep all class notes, handouts, and assignments in this notebook. Sometimes you may need colored pencils, markers, and glue sticks for various projects.

Evaluation:

The grading for the class will consist of the following:

Daily grades (Classwork/Homework/Quiz)40%

Tests and Projects60%

Late Work

Students who do not complete assignments by the due date will have one day to turn it in late for a loss of 10 points.

*This does not include missed assignments due to illness or other excused absences. Grading for those assignments is outlined in the school’s agenda.

Work Make up Policy

It is the student’s responsibility to talk to me about assignments missed! Students have three days to make up any missed assignments for an EXCUSED absence (see Attendance Policy). If the work is not turned in within three days of the absence, then it will be considered late and the late assignment policy will apply (see above).

If a student is absent for an extended period of time due to illness, etc., a fair solution for making up the missed assignments will be discussed with the parent/guardian and student.

Extra Credit

Some students struggle in the area of test taking or may miss a homework assignment. If a student wishes to improve a poor test grade or homework grade, they may take advantage of the following extra credit opportunities. Late Extra Credit assignments will not be accepted.
