Cambridge Inter-Collegiate Choral Awards Scheme

Vocal Assessment Days

Monday-Thursday, 29th September – 2nd October 2014

Information for potential applicants for Choral Awards

Vocal Assessment Days are held in September in order to provide informal advice on the suitability of your voice and experience for the varying demands of the choirs at Colleges that offer choral awards as part of the Inter-Collegiate Choral Awards Competition. In order to attend you need to complete the form available here:

The form will ask you to provide a list of up to 8 Colleges in order of preference where you would wish to be considered for a Choral Award. You must submit the form by 15thSeptember, and then you will be informed shortly afterwards of the date and venue of your informal audition. This will be taken by the Director of Music at the College listed as your first preference, following the same pattern as the formal auditions in March as described on the website under “What will happen at the audition?”, and you will also have an opportunity to meet in person with the Director of Music at your first-preference College and ask any relevant questions. Shortly after your visit the Co-ordinator of the scheme will inform you which College is the highest-placed on your list that would welcome an application from you on purely choral grounds. If this is not the College that you placed first choice, you may wish to bear this in mind when choosing which College to apply to on your UCAS form by 15thOctober. However, please note that the feedback from the Vocal Assessment Days does not constitute an offer of a place in a College or a guarantee of a Choral Award.

If you are successful during the academic selection process (December-January) and are offered a place in January, you can then apply for a Choral Award. The College at which you hold an academic offer must be your first preference, and you may apply to as many Colleges that participate in the Inter-Collegiate Choral Awards scheme as you like. Your application form must be submitted by 15thFebruary, and the Choral Trials will be held in mid-March. You do not have to attend the September Vocal Assessment Days in order to apply for a Choral Award.
