Greetings Knights!!!

First, I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year! It is my hope that the families of the Callaway community remain safe and in good health throughout the New Year. Again, I most certainly want to express my appreciation for your support of the teachers and staff of Callaway Elementary as we aim high to educate your children.

The 3rd quarter of the school year is upon us and there are a few things that we must remember as we forge ahead in the pursuit of meeting our mission. It important that your students are reading AR (accelerated reader) each night for at least 30 minutes, complete all homework assignments, and remains on task during classroom instruction as well as adhere to the student code of conduct.

Morning Drop Off/Student Safety Reminders
Please remember student safety is paramount here at Callaway. It is imperative that all drivers drive slowly and cautiously upon entering the parking lot. I expect that every parent has some place important to be, however, this does not negate that fact that our students must be safe. For the benefit of everyone please be mindful of the following:

  • No student should be dropped off from the parking lot.
  • Please refrain from talking on cell phones while in the car rider lane.
  • The crosswalk must be used at all times if it becomes necessary for students to be escorted inside the building.
  • Students are not to be dropped off before 7:15 am.
  • The use of tobacco is strictly prohibited on school grounds.

To increase student safety our front doors are lockedat 7:45 am. To enter the building you have to be buzzed in. We apologize for any inconvenience for any wait time but this a level protection for our students that must be in place.

Technology
We need your help. With the availability of laptops, ipads and other forms of technology, it is not necessary for students to bring technology to school. In light of having the technology we need for instructionwe are enforcing the school expectation that upon arrival to school cell phones or other electronic devices are to be turned off and put away.

Fast Food, Flowers and Balloons!
Fast food is not allowed to be dropped off. The only exception permitted for a fast food lunch would be if you came to eat lunch with your child. Then, you and your child will be allowed to have lunch together at a separate table from the team. Additionally, as a reminder please do not bring balloons andflowers, cakes or cupcakes during lunch or at any time to celebrate your child’s birthday. This will not be permitted and ultimately disrupts the learning environment. I understand the convenience of celebrating with friends at school but there are guidelines that must be followed with respect to food allergies. Bringing in cupcakes and cakes compromises the safety of students who may be allergic to ingredients used to prepare the food. Any flowers or balloons delivered to the school will remain in the front office until the end of the day just before dismissal. Having said this, it is acceptable for parents to support students with healthy alternatives such as fruit snacks, popcorn, fruit, etc… Additionally, as the year continues on students still have the opportunity to participate in school-wide celebrations through PBIS (positive behavior intervention support) through the end of the school year.

Thanks in advance for your support of our efforts as we aim high to protect students and preserve all instructional minutes. Again, thank you!!!
