CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR THE

2016-2017SMPS FORT WORTH CHAPTER BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The SMPS Fort Worth Chapter Nominations Committee is seeking qualified candidates to fill six positions on the 2016-2017Board of Directors:

  • President-Elect
  • Treasurer
  • Programs/Education Director
  • Membership/Philanthropy Director
  • Sponsorship Director
  • Communications Director

NOMINATION ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

To qualify for a position on the Board of Directors, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a member of SMPS.
  • Have the endorsement of your firm (see nomination form).
  • Have the ability to treat the board position as a high priority career extension.
  • Be willing to make a commitment to serve on the board of directors, understanding that this can, at times, be a commitment of several hours per month.
  • Actively participate in chapter events and planning activities.
  • Be committed to the advancement of SMPS, both as a local chapter and a national organization.
  • Be a team player that contributes personally and professionally, treating all chapter members and other board members with respect.

Nominations may be made by individuals (self-nominations are the most common method).

DESCRIPTION OF POSITIONS OPEN ON THE 2016-2017BOARD OF DIRECTORS

President-Elect

  • Must have served on the SMPS Fort Worth Board of Directors for one year.
  • Attends all board meetings.
  • Attends all programs and events (to the extent possible).
  • Develops Nomination Committee for future board recruitment.
  • Attends SMPS Chapter President’s Leadership Symposium (PLS) in Washington, D.C.
  • Crafts strategic plan and budget for upcoming FY.
  • Fills in for President when unable to attend a function.
  • Supports President as needed.
  • Chairs the Education Committee, under the oversight of the Programs/Education Director
  • Develops meaningful legacy.
  • Recruit and train replacement.
  • Will serve three one-year terms: September 1, 2016, to August 31, 2019. (President-Elect automatically advances next year to the position of President, then remains on the Board for a third year as Immediate Past President.)

Treasurer

  • Attends all board meetings.
  • Recruits and trains replacement.
  • Treasurer serves a two-year term: September 1, 2016 to August 31, 2018.

Programs/Education Director

  • Attends all monthly board meetings and majority of chapter events.
  • Plans chapter programs (panels) in accordance with National guidelines.
  • Holds regular committee meetings.
  • Makes all necessary arrangements to host programs.
  • Provides CEU forms at each event.
  • Sends thank you notes to speaker(s).
  • Reports required program information to SMPS National.
  • Prepares and submits annual Education Report (Sept 30).
  • Plans chapter education events – workshops, seminars, and training sessions – in accordance with National guidelines.
  • Recruit and train replacement.

Membership Director

  • Attends all board meetings and majority of chapter events.
  • Coordinates:
  • Chapter membership and prospect lists
  • Member surveys
  • New member orientation
  • Ambassador Program
  • Contact with existing members
  • Membership events
  • Creates and maintains membership recruitment and retention plan.
  • Tracks monthly membership expirations and follow-ups.
  • Holdscommittee meetings.
  • Recruit and train replacement.

Sponsorship Director

  • Attends all board meetings and majority of chapter events.
  • Develops and maintains sponsorship plan.
  • Coordinates sponsor recruitment and recognition.
  • Develops sponsorship-related materials: price list, letters, etc.
  • Maintains ongoing sponsor database, including history.
  • Introduces sponsor(s) at programs.
  • Writes thank you notes to sponsor(s).
  • Recruit and train replacement.

Communications Director

  • Attends all board meetings and majority of chapter events.
  • Coordinates:
  • Newsletter production
  • Press releases
  • Email blasts
  • Website maintenance and updates
  • Media relations
  • Adherence to chapter brand visual identity
  • Assists with specialty announcements (flyers, postcards, etc.).
  • Holdscommittee meetings.
  • Recruit and train replacement.

WHAT TO SUBMIT

Nominations must be submitted on the form provided and include attachments and supplemental information as requested. Only one copy of the nominating package is required.

The completed nomination package will include the following:

  • Professional data: employer, address, telephone, fax, e-mail, job title and primary responsibilities, number of years in marketing, history in the A/E/C industry, and professional accomplishments
  • SMPS participation: leadership roles and number of years as a member
  • Candidate’s statement
  • Employer’s endorsement (letter signed by candidate’s employer or supervisor)

Please submit all nomination materials by March 25, 2016,

Nominations must be received by end of day, March 25, 2016, to be considered.

THE NOMINATION AND ELECTION PROCESS

Individual nominations will be evaluated by the Nominations Committee. The committee will then select a slate consisting of one qualified nominee for each open position. It is the committee’s responsibility to select those candidates it believes represent the best individual and geographic balance for the Board from among the qualified nominations received.

A ballot with the slate of candidates determined by the Nominations Committee will be submitted to the Board of Directors by April15.

No ballot is required if no candidates in addition to those selected by the Nominations and Elections Committee for its slate are submitted by petition; in this event the Secretary shall declare the Committee’s slate elected by acclamation.
