SGIPGB Call for Candidates 2009

The Smart Grid Interoperability Panel seeks nominations for Members to serve on its Governing Board. The Governing Board will consist of approximately 27voting Members. Approximately 22Members of the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel Governing Board (SGIPGB) will be elected froma Stakeholder Category as listed in the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP) governing document, which is posted on the internet at: SGIPGB members will be at large members, and two will represent two SGIP Committees. The SGIPGB will also have several ex officio, non-voting Members. Member terms last 2 years, and Members may be re-elected; however, for the first SGIPGB, in order to ensure ensure both regular turnover and continuity, approximately half of the membership terms will be for one year and half for two years as specified in the bylaws.
As this is the inaugural year of the SGIPGB, all seats are open, and we seek candidates to represent each stakeholder category, as well as candidates for the at large positions. The committee-related positions will be filled after the committees are formed.
The call for candidates will be open for thirty days after publication in the Federal Register Notice. Nominations received by November 4, 2009 will be considered for the initial SGIPGB. Nominations received after that date will be considered for any positions for which nominations were not received by November 4, 2009, and for vacancies that may occur prior to the next call for candidates.

We are looking for qualified candidates with experience in one or more of the following Stakeholder Categories:
- Appliance and consumer electronics provider
- Consumers - Commercial and Industrial (C&I)
- Consumers - Residential
- Electricity and financial market traders (includes aggregators)
- Electric utility companies – Investor Owned Utilities (IOU)
- Electric utility companies - Municipal (MUNI)
- Electric utility companies - Rural Electric Association(REA)
- Electric transportation industry Stakeholders
- Information and communication technologies (ICT) Infrastructure and Service Providers
- Independent power producers
- Information technology (IT) application developers and integrators
- Power equipment manufacturers and vendors
- Professional societies, users groups, and industry consortia
- R&D organizations and academia
- Relevant Federal Government Agencies
- Renewable Power Producers
- Retail Service Providers
- Standard and specification development organizations (SDOs)
- State and local regulators
- Testing and Certification Vendors
- Transmission operators
- Venture Capital
Criteria to be considered in selecting nominees for the SGIPGB include:
- Visionary Capability: Members will be capable of understanding and contributing to the multi-disciplinary aspects of the Smart Grid and the specific goals of the SGIPGB mission.
- Team Effectiveness: Members will be able to work effectively within the scope of the Governing Board and within its organizational environment as a team.
- Credibility and Outreach: Members will be able to relay and leverage SGIPGB messages through the stakeholder community, contributing to underlying consensus building goals of the SGIPGB.
- Recognition: Members will be recognized experts in their technical fields of endeavor.
- Commitment: Members will be committed to contribute time and effort to SGIPGB activities
The SGIP Administrator shall evaluate proposed candidates against the above criteria.
Active participation in the SGIPGB offers a unique opportunity to accelerate and shape the standards-based information, telecommunications and control architecture for the future electric system from generation to end-use.
Governing Board members are expected to invest significant effort in guiding the activities of the SGIP, maintaining the Priority Action Plans and recommended standards list, and setting the architectural direction and reference framework through the maintenance and evolution of the NIST conceptual architecture. This means that investigation and presentation of concepts and results are natural components of this work. A serious commitment to attend meetings and review relevant material is required. Members will be expected to contribute between 5% and 15% of their time to SGIPGB activities ( a minimum oftwo, with a similar number of web-conferences).

Submission Guidelines
While compiling the elements needed for a complete candidate submission, we encourage potential candidates to initially indicate their intent to submit as soon as possible through a simple e-mail.
A complete submission should include:
- Candidate name and contact information.
- Proposer name and contact information (if not the candidate).
- Relevant information that would help determine how the proposed candidate meets the criteria.

Selection Process Time Frame
SGIPGB coordinators will verify that the information is complete and contact candidates to confirm that their submission has been received. For submissions received on or before November 4, 2009, candidates that have been determined to meet the criteria will be posted by November 11, 2009. For all submissions, the proposed candidates will be notified whether they meet the criteria within a reasonable time period.
This Call for Nominations will be published in the Federal Register. If there are any inconsistencies between this document and the document published in the Federal Register, the document published in the Federal Register governs
