CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR A RESIDENCY GRANT

at UNIDEE – University of Ideas at Cittadellarte – Fondazione Pistoletto,
Biella, Italy

Residency period: September 11th– November 11th, 2016

UNIDEE –University of Ideas is a multifaceted educational platforminvestigating the relationship between art and the public sphere through a new program of weekly residential modules based on interdisciplinary research, knowledge sharing and experience exchange, alongside a series of artists’ residency projects.

The program, developed by Cecilia Guida in collaboration with Juan Esteban Sandoval and under the general direction ofCittadellarte’s director Paolo Naldini, was launched on 4th May 2015.The 2016 program focuses on three broad concepts,temporality, responsibility, participation,encompassing art history, activism, commons, politics, territorial transformation, musicology, visual narratives, social imagery, relational systems, rituals, social cooking, urban space (etc.).

The structure of UNIDEE – University of Ideas is articulated through fourtypes of activities investigating the relationship between art and the public sphere:

  • Weekly residential modules taking place at Cittadellarte. These are open to professionals as well as the general public and are held by mentors who are experts in the 2016 program’s three broad thematic areas (temporality, responsibility, participation), which will be examined in depth from artistic, historical, geographical, philosophical, political, economic, anthropological, sociological, mediological, juridical and architectural points of view.
  • Seminar modules taking place at Cittadellarte and/or at external partner centers.
  • Residency programs for international artists at Cittadellarte.
  • Connective Residency at Cittadellarte.

ABOUT THIS RESIDENCY

A 2-month educational residency program based on the relationship between participatory art practicesand the socio-political transformation of society.

Duration: September 11th– November 11th, 2016.

The residency offered through this joint grant (A. M. Qattan Foundation & Cittadellarte – Fondazione Pistoletto) includes:

  • Round trip travel from Palestine to Italy
  • 2 months’ stay at Cittadellarte – Fondazione Pistoletto. (A singleroom is provided in an apartment shared with other international residents, inclusive of cleaning services,with use of shared studio space and workshop facilities.)
  • Travel Insurance
  • Visa costs
  • Taxi fares from airports to Biella
  • Expert visits, networking sessions, institutional visits and travel within northern Italy
  • Attendance at2 weekly modules chosen by the selected artist
  • A small budget for project production translations
  • A per diem allowance

You are eligible to apply if all the conditions below are met:

-You are a resident of Palestine

-You were born during, or after, 1981

-You have not previously been the recipient of anoverseas residencyfrom the A. M. Qattan Foundation

-You have a fluent knowledge of English.

Please note that the residency dates are fixed and no change can be accepted. Once the artist signs the agreement, it is mandatory to respect the given dates.

Selection Procedure:

A.M.Qattan Foundation will prepare an initial short-list of candidates, amongst whom the curatorial board at UNIDEE – University of Ideas will select one residency grant winner. Final results will be announced byJune15th, 2016.

-Basic / contact information;

-Motivation letter, including a project proposal for this specific residency (up to 2 x A4 pages, font size 12). Whenwriting up your proposal, bear in mind that UNIDEE – University of Ideas values process- and research-based practices: thus, the project you are proposing at the time of your application is not binding and can be implemented during the residency if still relevant. Please also mention which weekly modules you would like to attend.

-Artist statement.

-Check list of submitted work (images, texts, audios, videos, URLs, etc.).

-Curriculum Vitae.

-Portfolio with a selection of relevant work, as follows:

Images: Submit up to 10 images, at 100 dpi and medium-sized.

Texts: Submit up to 3 examples, published or unpublished.
Audio files: Submit up to 3 examples, up to 10 minutes each in duration.

Videos: Submit either URLs if available online, or use one of the following upload services only: Wetransfer, Dropbox or yousendit. Pay attention tothe expiry dates of links!

All material must be labelled with surname (family) name, followed by an underscore in the file name. For example: John Smith wouldlabel his submitted images as Smith_(title of image).jpg.
