> Call for Applications: Ernest W. Weaver, Sr. and Anne S. Weaver Memorial Scholarship

Children of Members of the NW Ohio Section, or Students of the University of Toledo and Ohio Northern University may apply - by the end of March - for the NW Ohio Section's Weaver Scholarship. All you have to do is write a 200 word essay on your personal goals, and how they will benefit ASME and the engineering profession in general. It's not as hard as it might seem to come up with a few paragraphs on this. It's a $500 scholarship.
Juniors and Seniors are eligible. This scholarship is awarded to the recipients individually, not jointly to the Bursar's office, etc..

> Call for Nominations, NW Ohio Section Executive Council

The NW Ohio Section is looking for volunteers to serve on the Section's

Executive Council.

Volunteers / nominees are needed for a three year term - July 2014 through June 2017

Candidates must be Members of of the ASME NW Ohio Section and will be involved in planning and organizing the Section's programs, and in most decisions affecting the Section.

They should be willing and able to attend several of the monthly Executive Council meetings, typically held September through June.

To volunteer, or propose someone else for nomination, please contact Jeff Reinhart, Nominating Committee Chairman, at by 5 PM on Monday, March 31.

> April Awards Program Announcement

Our Annual Awards Banquet / Program is scheduled for Thursday, April 17. Besides presentation of awards, this year we will have a ASME Fellow John Blanton, PhD as our Presenter. Dr. Blanton is a Member of the ASME Speakers Bureau. He will be presenting on “The History of the Development of the Jet Engine”.

Date: Thursday, April 17, 2014

Times:

6:00 – Social Time (Soft Drinks and Snacks)

6:30 – Dinner

7:30 – Awards

8:00 – Presentation “The History of the Development of the Jet Engine”

Place: Holiday Inn French Quarter; “Wooden Indian Room”; 10630 Freemont Pike, Perrysburg, OH 43551

Cost: $20 for Members; $10 for Students; $25 for Non-Student Guests

John Blanton is the Principal Engineer - Heat Transfer for GE Energy, a producer of gas, steam, and wind turbines. His 30-year engineering career with GE has focused primarily on industrial and aircraft gas-turbine technologies, including positions in Schenectady NY at the corporate Research &Development Center and with the Gas Turbine group, in Cincinnati OH with the Aircraft Engine group, and in Greenville SC in his current role. Dr. Blanton received BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech, and was on the teaching faculty there for one and a half years. He also has been an adjunct faculty at Union College in Schenectady NY and at the University of Cincinnati. He is a Fellow of ASME and an Associate Fellow of AIAA, and is an active volunteer leader in both organizations at local, regional, and institute levels.
