Calendar of Intercessions

Trinity 2015

(Part One)

Welcome

tothis edition of the prayer diary, which takes usthrough the first three months of Ordinary Time (the first 13 Sundays after Trinity). It’s still a sizable document, designed to be quick and clear to read, and also to leave space for your own notes. Of course, you do not have to print it all out at once, and you’re welcome to reformat it, if you wish.

Sunday entries are designed to look at some of the bigger pictures in our diocese – sometimes geographical (deaneries, archdeaconries, link dioceses) sometimes issues or activities (Diocesan Big Day Out). If there is an aspect of diocesan life that you’d like included on a Sunday, do let me know.These are followed through the week by daily prayers from all over the diocese. I’ve included the names of the incumbents, as requested, but this takes a good deal longer, so please let me know if this is valuable.You’ll notice the band of colour down the side changes through the year, as we move through the seasons of the Church.

In the Sunday entries I have included a lectionary suggestion. This is not always exhaustive, but gives a starting place. Through the summer months I’ll be using the related Old Testament reading.

Some days have a name below them. These are the names of people down the centuries who are champions of the faith and who we remember on these days. Occasionally days will have the note ‘ember day’ – these are days set aside by the church to pray for vocations, for labourers at the harvest.

The Anglican Communion encompasses a rich array of countries (165!) and cultures. This Anglican Diary enables us to feel connected in prayer to Archbishops, Bishops and our fellow Christians all over the globe. The Porvoo cycle of prayer, listed on Sundays, connects us to that body of Christians across Europe with whom the Church of England is in full Communion.

Finally, we’ve left space in the daily entries for you to note any prayer requests that have been made to you or your parish, or any special interests you want to remember in your prayers.

Please contact Lindsay with any comments or suggestions – or 01634 814439. She will also be pleased to provide large print copies to any who would find that helpful.

Fathers’ Day

It’s not unusual for Fathers’ Day to be dismissed by the Church as an Americanism, but when we pray to God as Father, it makes sense to have a day to celebrate the role that stems from God’s gracious care for us as ‘Abba’.
Pray for new fathers, for joy, for rest, and for wisdom;
For fathers who have buried their children, or who’ve been separated from them, for strength and the comfort of the Everlasting Arms;
For the children whose relationship with their father is fraught with difficulty and even danger;
For the children in this country are growing up without regular contact with their father and for all whose fathers have died.

Shoreham Deanery

The Shoreham Deanery is in a period of change. We await the arrival of a new Rural Dean. New clergy, starting in due course, have been appointed to Wrotham (Edward Wright), Ightham (Tim Hatwell) and Shoreham (Diane Rees. She will also be part-time Chaplain to St Michael’s Prep School, Otford).
Revd Liz Walker, Vicar of Platt and DDO, retires in the Autumn. St Martin’s Church, Eynsford, has just opened again after substantial and lovely internal re-ordering. Do go and see it. Building work on the extension to Stansted church is due to be completed soon. Shoreham PCC have received planning consent for their church extension. Much is happening in the many churches scattered across this largely rural area. Do pray for their ministry, mission and service to their local communities.”
Diane Rees’ appointment is likely to be announced this Sunday, or possibly next Sunday. Perhaps you need to check with Emma whether the announcement will have been made by the time this prayer request goes public.
