Manning the Exhibition:

The Cairns Art Society will require ‘people power’ to receive artworks, from 9.00am to 4.30pm, Sun 16and 9am to 12 noon on Mon 17May and to dispatch artworks, from 10.00am to 4.30pm, Sunday 13June. Assistance will also be needed on opening night (Fri 21May) to help serve food and sell raffle tickets etc. Volunteers will be required to man the exhibition during all opening hours.

Conditions of Entry

1.Closing Date: Cairns Art Society must receive Entry Form by 5pm, Monday 10 May 2010.

2.Number of Entries: Exhibitors are permitted to enter a maximum of two separate artworks, that means if you enter two paintings as a diptych then you have reached your maximum. No triptych allowed.

3.Entry Fees: Entry fees are $15 per artwork, payable to Cairns Art Society Inc and must be submitted with the Entry Form. Entry fees are non-refundable.

4.Eligibility: All works are any medium and either in the themed “EnviroArt:EnviroSmart” Section or in the general section for any subject, and must be the original work of the entrant. Exhibitors must be a member of an incorporated art society or organisation in the Cairns region.

5.Dimensions:

Paintings – shall not exceed 2 metres on any side. Paintings must not weigh more than 40 kg.

3 Dimensional works - the base footprint shall not exceed 60cm at its widest point, or 2m in height. Overall dimensions should not exceed the carrying capacity of two persons. The artwork must be easily transportable, and have a stable base.

6.Presentation: All paintings/photographs etc. must be suitably wired for permanent hanging or display (coated wire is recommended, and wired one third from the top of the artwork). Unframed canvases must be professionally presented. Please note that wet paintings will NOT be accepted. If any work is not to a reasonably professional standard or deemed to be unsuitable, CAS reserves the right to reject same. Cairns Art Society will engage Tanks Curator to co-curate with one member of CAS, and their curatorial decisions will be final.

7.Labelling: Please complete a label for each artwork and STAPLE to the back/base of the artwork. (Labels as per page 7). .

8.Sales of Artworks: All works must be for sale. CAS will receive 20% commission on all sales. The artist’s selling price (including GST, if applicable, and CAS commission) must be on the label. CAS will direct the artist to the potential purchaser if delivery of works by freight is required, to organize between themselves.

9.Delivery of Artworks: All artworks are to be delivered between 9.00am and 4.30pm, Sunday 16 or 9am and 12 noonMonday 17May, to the Tanks Arts Centre, Tank 4. Late delivery of artworks will NOT be accepted.

10.Collection of Artworks: All artworks must be collected from the Tanks Arts Centre between 10.00am and 4.30pm, Sunday 13th June. This is very important as another exhibition is to be set up on the next day. Distant entrants will need to make arrangements to collect or transport any unsold works. Each unsold work not collected by specified time and date will incur a $25 storage and handling fee.

11.Promotion & Publicity: Entrants shall allow their artwork to be reproduced in any media coverage related to the exhibition. Exhibitors are also invited to be artists in residence any time during the exhibition.

12.Manning the Exhibition: Volunteers are required to man the exhibition during all opening hours (two on each shift). Therefore, entrants are requested to provide at least one roster shift on the Roster Form, suitable to their availability. Assistance will also be needed to receive artworks on Sun 16morning of Mon 17May and dispatch artworks Sunday 13June. On completion of roster designation, entrants will be notified for confirmation of roster duty.

13.Removal of Artworks: Purchased artworks may not be removed during the exhibition. The Tanks Arts Centre can assist as a referral service for postal and packing facilities.

14.Disputes: Should any disputes arise for which no ruling has been laid down, the matter shall be determined by the Cairns Art Society Inc Management Committee, whose decision will be final.

15.Insurance: Entrants are responsible for their own insurance, should they require it. All entries are accepted by the Cairns Art Society Inc. on condition that the Society shall not be responsible for loss or damage to any item submitted for exhibition, whether during transport, exhibition, or in the possession of the Society.
