SEPTA’s Spring Outreach Event

SEPTA is holding a Spring Outreach Event titled, “InRoads to Success” on Monday, May 3, 2010 from 9:00 A.M. – 12:00 noon at SEPTA’s Headquarters, 1234 Market St. on the Mezzanine Level. This event is hosted by SEPTA’s DBE Program and will feature lending programs and technical resources available for Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs) that support their successful participation in federally funded projects. The outreach event will consist of two segments. The first is a Panel General Session and will provide an overview of: various technical assistance resources; lending programs, financial planning for business growth; SEPTA’s commodities, services and Electronic Procurement System (EPS). The second segment will provide for a group question and answer session with featured representatives.

CAEP Safety News

CAEP Meets with OSHA

CAEP Staff met with OSHA’s Philadelphia Area DirectorAl D’Imperio, on Thursday, April 8thto discuss current issues in our area, inspections, and OSHA’s current direction. OSHA’s main focus when conducting inspections fall under the focus 4 hazards, such as, caught in-between, struck by, falls, and electrical. Falls are still the number one area of concern and leading cause of fatalities in the area. With this in mind, secure any fall hazards on your site, as well as, conduct safety meetings and talks to ensure the health and safety of your employees when dealing with any potential fall hazard. Also, take this time to get involved in our Authorized Person for Safety at Heights and Competent Person for Fall Protection Equipment Inspection course offered through CAEP and Med-Tex Services, Inc.presented by MSA. Heavy highway construction has been in compliance overall in our area and has had no issues thus far. As a reminder, any sites that are funded through stimulus dollars will be inspected by OSHA. CAEP will be conducting monthly meetings with OSHA to stay on top of current issues, concerns, any changes to any regulations on the horizon, as well as keeping relations and lines of communication between our members in excellent standing. Competent Person for Fall Protection Training Course

The Contractors Association of Eastern Pennsylvania and Med-Tex Services, Inc. will be offering an Authorized Person for Safety at Heights and Competent Person for Fall Protection Equipment Inspection course located at Med-Tex Services, Inc., 6940 State Road Unit F, Training Center in Philadelphia. This very informative class will be presented byMSA. This is a one day course lasting 8 hours long, and will be offered on two separate occasions. The dates planned for this course are Monday, May 3, 2010 and Tuesday, May 4, 2010. Class times are from 8:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M. CAEP members can attend this course for a discounted cost of $255.00 per student which includes the manual, t-shirt and lunch. There is limited seating for these classes and they are offered on a “first come first served” basis. The registration form is enclosed. Reminder - April 22 Deadline to Obtain EPA (RRP) Certification

Federal law will require that contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be certified in the new EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule (RRP) by April 22, 2010 and follow specific work practices to reduce human exposures to lead. Activities that fall under this new law include any work which can create hazardous dust and chips by disturbing lead-based paint such as sanding, cutting, and demolition. Reminder, Last ASHE Dinner Meeting of the Season!

The last ASHE Dinner Meeting of the season will be held on Wednesday,April 21, 2010 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge, 1106 First Avenue, King of Prussia, PA 19406.
