SECTION 1 : DISTRICT GOVERNOR & OFFICERS.
NAME : Neil Chisholm.OFFICE : District Governor
February 2012 Cabinet Report.
ACTIONS TAKEN SINCE LAST MEETING:
The highlight of the year to date was the chance to march passed the Cenotaph in London on Remembrance Sunday on behalf of the Lions in the District.
Although reported at the last Cabinet meeting as an update I wish to record
the outcome of the tree planting. In Aldridge 420 trees and in Sandwell 987 trees were planted. In Sandwell we were faced with being up to our knees in manure. An
unexpected treat!!
After a quick change of clothes it was off to the District Young Ambassador Final in Birmingham. There were four exceptionally good candidates and we heard from them all about the work that they were doing in the community. They are the leaders of the future. The winner will be at the District Convention in March.
I have been surprised as I have gone round the clubs how many prospective members there are, Knowle and Dorridge has 16 and Balsall Common 10.
I have also inducted two new members at Birmingham Handsworth and three at Coventry Phoenix, who also have a further two prospective members.
Over the Christmas period I went back to being a normal club Lion helping with the tin collection to make up food parcels for the needy. At the Annual Carols at Warwick Castle
I was brewing the mulled wine and finally I was able to attend the Clubs Christmas party. I also attended Coventry Godiva’s Christmas Party as well as their club meeting.
On Boxing Day I went to the Kenilworth Duck Race and had a microphone thrust at me to say a few words. It took me off guard!!
Unfortunately over the last two months I have attended two funerals of long standing Lions,
Alan Matthews of Wolverhampton Lions Club and John Whitfield from Shakespeare Lions Club.
This Saturday I was at the Boccia Games for people with Cerebral Palsy in Wolverhampton. It was good to see 32 Lions from 8 different clubs helping on the day. The enjoyment that the kids got by just taking part were immeasurable. It was a moving experience.
Beryl and I then went to Shakespeare Lions Charity Dance at the Civic Hall Stratford upon Avon and danced the night away to the Joe Loss Orchestra.
The District Governors Team is meeting on a monthly basis which will means that there will be a smooth transfer of power.
Now it is down to work sorting out the District Convention business session. I hope you have all booked.
OBJECTIVES
My objective remains the same; I want to put a SMILE on all Lions’ faces as
WE SERVE.

No further response from contact made at coffee morning.
Bilston & Willenhall / 8 / 8 / 3 / We are proud to be enrolling 2 new members at our next club meeting on Jan19th. Potentially the 3rd prospective member will also be enrolled the same night. Due to the success of our last drinks & nibbles we will be doing another leaflet drop in March, targeting the same area.
Dudley / 9 / 9 / 0 / This is an on going matter for the club.
Kingswinford & Stourbridge / 26 / 26 / 2 / Enquiries from two prospective members being followed up
Walsall / 13 / 13 / 0 / Our 2011 Plant Project order form had an opt-out of marketing information and we are keeping our ‘opted in customers’ up to date with all our events including recent concert. We plan to hold a further membership drive in the first quarter.
Wolverhampton / 9 / 9 / 0 / The club will need to continue to find new members in order to rebuild the club and move the club forward; this will be assessed and looked at in the coming months.

Community Services / Arrangements in hand for annual Senior Citizens Charity Concert on 3rd April 2012 at Brierley Hill Civic Hall
Of the 462 prostate test carried out in October; 14 were “amber” results meaning that a close watch is needed and 28 “red” results meaning urgent attention is needed. We can be pretty certain that we have saved lives.
We were represented at the Stourbridge Remembrance Day Parade.
Tree planting has been pursued with DMBC and it now looks as if a site will be made available.
Fundraising Activities / The results of our “My Ideal Club” questionnaire were presented to the club by way of a PowerPoint presentation. This has shown that there are several areas that need to be addressed, Club officers are to consider and make recommendations.
Our Santa's Sleigh has done its full rounds this year, we are grateful for the help, with collecting, given by many local charities.
Static collections were made at Debenhams, Sainsbury's and Aldi all monies raised to go to Compton Hospice.

18 December 2011 – Christmas Lunch
Other Comments / To ensure that we understand what makes our existing members happy to be members of Lions and to listen to their suggestions for making membership more successful.
To promote our Club locally (especially in areas that we have not been active in for some time); obtaining press exposure on a regular basis.
Get involved in managing projects that will receive press coverage to again promote our presence. Increase the number of ‘Friends of Lions’ that are willing to assist with specific tasks even if they do not wish to join Lions currently.
Continue to foster connections/relationships with local senior schools- gaining commitment to make Christmas Float a refurbishment or replacement design project.
Club Name / Wolverhampton
Community Services / The club continues to supply and promote the message in a bottle scheme and have had new requests to supply them to individuals and to new outlets. The club is collecting unwanted eyeglasses and sending them for recycling through Lions.
