How to generate HTML diagrams with Diagram object selection and textual details (annotations)

1.  Open a model with a Subject Area – see Customer. In the Customer Subject Area, there are two ER Diagrams created – LDM and PDM. (see Figure 1)

2.  Start the new Report Designer from the ERwin toolbar - Tools | Report Designer (see Figure 2)

3.  From the Erwin Report Designer toolbar, select File | New Report (see Figure 3)

4.  The Report Editor opens, the name of the Report will be ‘Report for Subject Area and Diagram’. The Report Type is ‘Logical/Physical’. (see Figure 4)

5.  From the Left ‘Select Report’ pane, select ‘Subject Area’. The properties for ‘Subject Area’ will be available for selection in the Right ‘Select Report’ pane. (see Figure 5)

6.  In the Right ‘Select Report’ pane, users can pick and choose specific properties under the ‘Subject Area’ umbrella to report on. Let’s build a report to generate HTML diagrams with Diagram object selection for textual details. Expand on

·  ER Diagram

·  Graphical Members

·  Entity/Table – expand on Properties | Select Name and Physical Name (Entity and Table Name) | Definition (Entity Definition) and Comment (Table Comment). Click ‘OK’ to save the selections (see Figure 6)

7.  Expand on all under the ‘Report for Subject Area and Diagram’ to see the selections in the ‘Report Explorer’ (see Figure 7)

8.  To run and export the report as HTML, select Export | select Export as HTML (see figure 8)

9.  From the Export Report, here you can specify a directory to save the HTML file(s). Click OK – to export – (see Figure 9)

10.  Processing occurs and completes. The HTML files are created and the webpage open – Click on Customer Subject Area (see Figure 10)

11.  Note the Result Set – A nice/formatted report appears. Some Formats to select are Tabular or Hierarchical (see Figure 11)

12.  Click on the link LDM (ER Diagram) under Subject Area Customer – note the Diagram result page for LDM (see Figure 12)

13.  Click on the link for PDM under Subject Area Customer – note the Diagram result page for PDM. Click on Table ‘Payment’ and notice the textual details in the result set for ‘Payment’. The Table and Entity name appears as well as the Entity Definition and Table Comment. (see Figure 13)

Conclusion

This document shows how to generate HTML diagrams with Diagram object selection for textual details (annotations). There are a set of 45 pre-defined report solutions to get you started and for use to customize and create your own reports. These pre-defined reports and the built-in Report Solution File are located in the following folder on your system:

The built-in Report Solution File and point and click allows for quick reports to generate.
