Meeting Minutes
June 14, 2007
The special called meeting of the Butler County Board of Education was held at the Central Office Boardroom located at 215 Administrative Drive in Greenville, Alabama at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2007, with the following Board officials in attendance: Board President, Mr. Billy Jones, Board Members Ms. Linda Hamilton, Mr. Terry Williams, Mr. Joseph Lisenby, Board Attorney Mr. Lewis S. Hamilton and Superintendent of Education, Mike Looney. Superintendent Looney certified that there was a quorum present. Following the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States Flag, Mr. Joseph Lisenby led in prayer.
Bond Issue Update
Superintendent Looney reported that Merchant Capital has secured a AAA bond rating for our school system. This is the best rating possible. He noted that this was very good news and the bond insurance associated with that rating is approximately 15 points below the expected basis point rating. He noted that they are predicting to go to the bond market next week providing the market is good.
Board Member Candidate Interview – Vonciel Bedgood
Mrs. Vonceil Bedgood gave a brief presentation and was interviewed by the Board members for the board member vacancy for District 5. Mrs. Bedgood noted that she had always had a strong interest in education and felt that everyone should be educated. She stated that she had served as PTA President, Trustee at the Butler County Extension Office and Chairman of the Women’s Affairs in the Butler County Civic League. She noted that if she was appointed to the position she would be interested in seeking re-election.
Budget Amendment Approved
Upon a recommendation by Superintendent Looney, motion by Mr. Joseph Lisenby, seconded by Ms. Linda Hamilton, all ayes, no nays, the proposed budget amendment was approved.
Report of Bid Results – CNP Equipment
Upon a recommendation by Superintendent Looney, motion by Ms. Linda Hamilton, seconded by Mr. Joseph Lisenby, all ayes, no nays, the following low bids for CNP equipment (copies of the bid results are included as a part of these minutes):
- Goodwyn Brothers – Walk-In Freezers—McKenzie High School – Total Bid: $19,995.00
- Dixie Fixtures – Convection Ovens – Greenville Middle & Greenville High Schools – Total Bid: $22,982.00
Report of Bid Results – Security Cameras
Upon a recommendation by Superintendent Looney, motion by Mr. Joseph Lisenby, seconded by Ms. Linda Hamilton, all ayes, no nays, the following low bid for security cameras for the Alternative School was approved (a copy of the bid results is included as a part of these minutes):
- Gorrie-Regan – Total Bid: $12,997.00
Resolution for Authorization of School Bus Lease Agreement
Upon a recommendation by Superintendent Looney, motion by Ms. Linda Hamilton, seconded by Mr. Terry Williams, all ayes, no nays, this item was removed from the agenda pending additional clarification regarding several legal issues.
Permission Granted for Greenville Police Department to Use Band Room at Education & Community Learning Center for Patrol Division
Upon a recommendation by Superintendent Looney, motion by Mr. Joseph Lisenby, seconded by Ms. Linda Hamilton, all ayes, no nays, permission was granted for the Greenville Police Department to use the band room a the Education & Community Learning Center as their patrol division headquarters. Superintendent Looney noted that this would be beneficial to the school system as it would provide 24 hour police coverage for our campus in that area.

Upon a recommendation by Superintendent Looney, motion by Mr. Joseph Lisenby, seconded by Mr. Terry Williams, all ayes, no nays, employment of the following personnel was approved:

- Sheri Brown, Elementary Teacher, W. O. Parmer Elementary School
- Randi Burkett, Elementary Teacher, W. O. Parmer Elementary School
- Amy Caudle, Special Education Services Teacher, Greenville High School
- Patricia Campbell, English Teacher, Georgiana High School
- Hodtrick Robinson, Special Education Services Teacher, Alternative School
- James Daniel Ingram, History Teacher, Greenville High School

Transfers (Notification of Intent to Transfer)
Upon a recommendation by Superintendent Looney, motion by Ms. Linda Hamilton, seconded by Mr. Joseph Lisenby, all ayes, no nays, permission was granted to notify the following employees of intent to transfer to positions as indicated:
- Gerald Hall, transfer from CNP Worker, W. O. Parmer Elementary School to CNP Worker,
Greenville High School
- Renee Mullins, transfer from Instructional Aide, W. O. Parmer Elementary School to Special
Education Services Aide, W. O. Parmer Elementary School
- Doris Rankins, transfer from Social Studies Teacher, Greenville Middle School to Special
Education Services Teacher, Greenville Middle School (Voluntary Transfer)
Re-Employment
Upon a recommendation by Superintendent Looney, motion by Mr. Joseph Lisenby, seconded by Mr. Terry Williams, all ayes, no nays, re-employment of the following personnel was approved:
- Amanda Coghlan, Elementary Teacher, W. O. Parmer Elementary School
- Susan Bradford, CNP Worker, R. L. Austin Elementary School
- Charlotte Savage, Instructional Aide, W. O. Parmer Elementary School
Resignations
Upon a recommendation by Superintendent Looney, motion by Mr. Joseph Lisenby, seconded by Ms. Linda Hamilton, all ayes, no nays, the following resignations were accepted:

Suspension
Upon a recommendation by Superintendent Looney, motion by Mr. Joseph Lisenby, seconded by Ms. Linda Hamilton, all ayes, no nays the following employee suspension was approved:
- Rayfield Waters, CNP Manager, W. O. Parmer Elementary School – suspension without pay for one (1) day for failure to follow appropriate Butler County Board of Education Child Nutrition Program accounting procedures.
Adjournment
Mr. Billy Jones noted that a new board member would be named at the June 21, 2007 regular meeting. Upon a motion by Ms. Linda Hamilton, seconded by Mr. Joseph Lisenby, all ayes, no ayes, the meeting was adjourned.
