Course Description: Business Technology Applications is a course designed to assist students in developing technological proficiencies in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations, communications, Internet use, ethics, and careers using technology applications. Simulations and projects promoting teamwork, leadership, and workplace skills offer further opportunities for application of knowledge and skills.

Career and technical student organizations are integral, co curricular components of each career and technical education course. These organizations serve as a means to enhance classroom instruction while helping students develop leadership abilities, expand workplace readiness skills, and broaden opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Program: Business Management and Administration

Course Goals: To provide each student withthe opportunity to explore various careersand the option to learn computer skills and procedures that will contribute to their education and future employment.

  • What criteria should a person or business use in selecting hardware and software in various environments? Why are these criteria important?
  • How are these self assessments beneficial in career planning? What is your self assessment ranking and how will it help you in the future?
  • How do you create and format a variety of personal and business related documents?

  • How do spreadsheet applications simplify data commonly used in business settings?
  • How do database applications organize data commonly used in business settings?
  • How is multimedia software used to enhance information presentations?

Grading Scale: Students will be graded on a scale of 0-100 for assignments. Work not turn in or attempted will receive a zero for the assignment. Students who have an excuse absence will have three days to make up work. Students who are absent when a Guest Speaker visits, will be required to do a report on the Speakers content. Criteria for the report will be given to the student.

Students who copy or allow someone to copy their work will be given a “0” for the assignment or test.

Assessment Procedures:

Student’s grades will be based on the following and each carry

  • Test Grades: Test will consist of objective written and productivity. A possible notebook grade will also count as a test grade. Test grades will be counted twice.
  • Daily Work: Students will be given daily assignments to complete. Assignments will be kept in a folder. This grade is very important.
  • Class Projects: Students will be assign class projects to work on their own or in class. This may be individual or as a team. Criteria will be given for projects.
  • Employability Skills: Job skillsconsist of dependability, neatness, professional behavior, organization and following directions.

CTSO:

  • Prepare for competitive events
  • Present computer safety presentations and ethics presentations to another group
  • Present career presentations to other classes
  • Format and key documents for another group
  • Type documents for various groups
  • Analyze data
  • Create databases for various civic organizations
  • Create and deliver commerce and information technology curriculum
  • Utilize the Internet to publish information about the Career Tech program or CTSO
  • Prepare a FBLA budget
  • Present a financial literacy presentation to the middle school
  • Attend a court case relating to ethics
  • Participate in job shadowing
  • Demonstrate business dress
  • Present CTSO presentation to another group

Remember this is a business class, good ethics and skills are important.

Please remember that this is a business class and good attendance and being on time is very important for any job. If a student misses a class or is late to class, they are expected to make all work and assignments. Please do not ask to leave class to go to another teacher’s room. If you are detained by a teacher or are in the office, you will need to bring an excuse or you will be counted tardy.

As a teacher I am expected to abide by the rules and regulations of Colbert County High School Administrators and the Colbert County Board of Education.
