GRADING INSTRUCTIONS

Each student or group must create their own business & their own PowerPoint Project. Since you are creating your own business do not use a franchise for you project. Each page will be graded for all details to be included. Once this project is completed save on your “h” drive DO NOT PRINT.

Business plans need to be professional, detailed, and creative.

I would recommend usingMS PowerPoint(make your font much smaller)

Create a business plan and include the information that is listed in this packet. Be creative, do research on the type of business, and be detailed with your information. Each page should have at least 2 paragraphs or a complete list of information. You will have time in class to work on this project, you may also need to work on some of this outside of class.

General Instructions:

Decide what business you are going to create and make a PowerPoint explaining your business. The business should be something you’re interested in or related to a hobby you have. You may pattern your business after an existing business or be totally creative and do something different. You may use drawings, pictures, and computer programs to enhance the material. Put presentation in order of instructions. Make sure your business and all information is school appropriate.

COVER (SLIDE 1): PICTURE AND NAME OF BUSINESS

The name of your business.The cover of your folder should look like the front of your business or somehow represent your business. Remember, this is the first image someone has of your business, so design, color, landscape, window dressing, etc. is important. BRANDING: Use your own trademark/logo here to identify your business. TYPE YOUR NAME IN SMALL LETTERS ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT OF THE SLIDE

SLIDE2: LEGAL BUSINESS OWNERSHIP

(What documentation is needed for this type of ownership & advantages/disadvantages of each)

*PROVIDE A HYPERLINK TO THE APPROPRIATE FORM(s) NEEDED FOR THIS TYPE OF OWNERSHIP (Most forms can be found online in a PDF format). This is a description of your business ownership. The page should be titled with the type of ownership you will be operating under and whether it is a service or product related business. Description must be in complete sentences and words spelled correctly. Depending on the kind of ownership you choose be sure to include all the information that is requested. CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

1) Sole Ownership – Why did you choose to be a sole owner? Why did you choose this kind of business? (interest, talent, hobby, following in relative footsteps, etc.) What would be the advantages and disadvantages of this type of ownership?

2) Partnership – Why did you choose this kind of ownership? Describe why you chose this kind of business? (interest, talent, hobby, following relative footsteps, etc.) How many partners do you have and what is each bringing into the business that will be beneficial? What are the advantages and disadvantages of this type of ownership?

3) Corporation—Explain why you chose to be involved in a corporation and why you chose the kind of business you did. Who are your directors? What are the advantages and disadvantages of this type of ownership?

SLIDE 3: MAP/LOCATION OF BUSINESS

Draw a map of the area where you will locate your business. It may be fictional or you may pull an existing business from a spot and put yours in. The map should include a key for major land marks, major streets, schools, residential areas, business districts, etc. Include cross streets, city and state.

SLIDE 4: PRODUCTS & SERVICES- WHAT YOU ARE SELLING

Title this page “Product Description” or “Service Description.” Then describe the products you are selling or services you are offering. Include pictures and details of what you are selling

SLIDE5: WHAT YOU NEED TO RUN YOUR BUSINESS- RESOURCES

Title this page “Items Needed to Run the Business.” Divide your paper into several columns labeled:

Selling Needs (Advertising) Building Needs (Capital/PhysicalAssets-Equipment) Miscellaneous Needs

At the bottom, explain whom your business relies on. (Ex. Bank, advertisers, police, etc.)

SLIDE 6: STAFF

Title this page “Employees.” How many employees will you hire? What will their specific job descriptions be? What kind of employee characteristics of qualifications will you look for? Write a want ad for one of the positions. Use newspaper want ads for help in setting up the information you want published.

SLIDE 7: SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Explain your business’ social responsibility to your customers and your community. Select a project your business will participate in to help the community. Describe how you will support the project.

SLIDE 8: COST (ITEMIZED) FOR YEAR 1

Develop a projected start up cost budget for your first year. Include building, land, equipment, supplies, furniture, staff, and any other expense that you need to start up the business.

SLIDE 9: TARGET AUDIENCE

Who is your target audience? Includeage groups, demographic groups, and identifying characteristics that will helpyou be successful in selling your product to that particular customer. What type of customer will buy your product and why?

What type of image do you want to convey and how will you carry this out in your fixtures, color schemes, designs, and added extras?

PAGE 10: CREATE A LOGO & SLOGAN

Develop an advertising plan and slogan for your company. How are you going to advertising your business and where do you advertising?

Make your slogan original and catchy forthe consumer to remember. Displaying your slogan and customized logo/trademark for advertising (Include pictures).
