COURSE DESCRIPTION

Computer Accounting Essentials is an entry level accounting course. Students will learn the procedural methods of taking data and entering that data into an accounting system.

Course Performance Standards:

  1. Analyze business transactions and their effect on the accounting equation.
  2. Prepare an Income Statement, Owner’s Equity Statement, and a Balance Sheet.
  3. Journalize business transactions, post to a ledger, and prepare a trial balance.
  4. Use a worksheet to bring accounts up to date through adjusting entries.
  5. Reconcile the bank statement to the company books.
  6. Compute payroll and payroll taxes.
  7. Use a combined journal for the recording of cash and special accounts.

*A minimum average score of 60 is required (zero points if less than 60)

***Students must pass the midterm and the final exam (each) with a minimum score of 60 (D) in order to receive a grade of C or better in the course; in spite of the number of points accumulated in any of the other two components of the evaluation. No single component of the class can be eliminated and/or substituted by scores from any of the other two. The final grade is a combination of scores on all three components.

College Withdrawal Policy – In accordance with the State College of Florida policy, as stated in the college catalog, students may withdraw from any course, or all courses, without academic penalty, by the withdrawal deadline listed in the State College of Florida academic calendar. This semester the withdrawal date is ______. Instructor attendance policy: Attendance in this course is evidenced by students’ timely completion of all assignments and quizzes. Therefore, students who fail to complete all assignments/tasks during any two-week period, without submitting written evidence of hardship, will be withdrawn from the course by the instructor.
