Dear Grade 8 Student and Parent/Guardian:

Summer will soon be here and your entry to high school is on the horizon. On behalf of your Vice Principals,

Mr. Ron Zoratto, Ms. Joycelin Brown and myself, let me bid you an early welcome to Bur Oak Secondary School. Below, you will find a number of items to help you prepare for September.

REGISTRATION / ORIENTATIONDAY

Monday, August 31st Grade 9 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Students are asked to register at the appropriate time on the day noted above. Parents are advised that students should bring sufficient money with them to cover athletic uniforms and one of the registration packages listed below. BurOakSecondary School registration will be held on the first floor starting at the Main Office. Edge Imaging photographers will be present during the registration day to take student pictures for student photo I.D. card, the yearbook and photo packages. Registration day provides students with the opportunity to purchase the following:

REGISTRATION PACKAGE – Please bring CASH to cover the cost of the Registration Package and Physical Education Uniform.

It is compulsory that all students have a student activity card with photo I.D. and a student agenda book. All students will be photographed at registration for their identification card.

Don’t let your memories of your first year at BurOakSecondary School fade away. Purchase a yearbook and keep those memories alive. Save $5.00 when the yearbook is purchased as part of Package B.

*LOCK FEE

Students are required to pay a $5.00, non-refundable, one time fee for their first lock. This lock is school property and must remain on the locker at the end of the school year.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION UNIFORM

All Physical and Health Education students are required to wear Bur Oaks’ athletic attire when participating in Physical Education classes. This clothing is intended to be purchased once, and used for your entire high school career. Other athletic clothing is not acceptable for class activities. Students are encouraged to purchase the Physical Education clothing package during registration, as proper attire will be required for the first day of classes. We recommend that students do not share clothing with friends. The cost of the athletic clothing is as follows:

Mandatory Physical Education clothing package-$30.00(2 T-shirts and one pair of shorts)

Note: if you wish to replace the shorts with track pants, please indicate this to your Physical Education teacher

Where do you go September 8th?

The first day of school is always exciting and a little scary too. September 8this only for Grade 9 students. Upon arrival, find your name on the lists posted in the main hallway. Your homeroom teacher’s name will be posted. All students will proceed to the cafeteria for an assembly. Following the assembly, students will attend classes as well as participate in a number of orientation activities. All parents/guardians are invited to attend the assembly. A special orientation session for parents: “Introduction to High School 101 for Parents” will be held immediately following the assembly. Parents/guardians may then attend their son’s/daughter’s classes in the morning.

School Council:

Parent/guardians, would you like to get involved? Come out to the first meeting and elections for the 2009-10School Council being held on Wednesday, September 30th at 7:00 p.m. in the school library.

Office Summer Hours:

Beginning the week of June 29th, the school office will be open Monday to Thursday, 8:00a.m to 3:30 p.m., excluding statutory holidays and the week of August 3rd-7th inclusive. Please call ahead before visiting our office.
