About the venue

The town of Náchod (www.mestonachod.cz) in Eastern Bohemia is well worth a visit. Situated on the riverbanks of Metuje near the Polish border it offers a wide range of attractions – beautiful nature (mountains in the surroundings) as well as rich cultural heritage (first mentioned in the 13th Century, the town has its renaissance castle, baroque town hall, gothic church, municipal “Art Nouveau” theatre etc). Many Czech artists have been inspired by the town and the region, Josef Skvorecky, famous writer and exile publisher, was born here (*1924). The rich cultural tradition continues up to the present: a museum, little art galleries, a cinema and theatre offer their services and a range of cultural events happen every year: Náchodská Prima sezóna (festival of student creativity – theatre, film, literature and others), Camerata Nova (chamber music festival), Nachod Art Autumn, Nachod Cultural Summer, Nachod Swing and others. The neighbour town Hronov hosts every year the biggest and oldest amateur theatre festival Jiraskuv Hronov (www.jiraskuvhronov.cz).
