Search Limits -On the Search Limits page, select the database(s) and time frame to search or browse. These limits will be applied throughout the session until you return to this page (via the Limits button on the toolbar shown on most pages) and change them. By default, the last six months will be searched across all available databases (the time frame has been set to All years for this tutorial).
Search Page -Use the Search page to locate items in the selected database(s). You can create and run multiple search sets and combine them using Boolean operators to narrow or broaden your results. Use wildcards for greater efficiency (asterisk (*): zero to many characters; question mark (?): one character). Click the number link of a search set to view the results.
Editing Searches -You can edit and add to your search statements by clicking the Edit button for the corresponding search. Edit the search statement in the search statements box, and click Search to submit the changes.
Combining Searches -To combine search sets, select Set Combination from the search field drop-down list box. The picture below shows the Search page after three search sets have been created. The third search is a Set Combination that narrows the results by combining the results of sets 1 and 2 with the "AND" operator.
Saving Histories and Alerting -Search histories can be saved on the server (registered users only) or on your local workstation. Click the Save History button on the Search page to save the current search history.
Summary Page -The Summary page is displayed when you click a number link on the Search page. Up to ten records are shown at a time. Click the record title to view the Full Record. You can also add records to your Marked List. If relevant Web sites were found by eSearch, a note will appear at the top of the page; click the eSearch button to see the summary of these selected Web sites.
Full Record Page -This page is displayed when you click an article title on the Summary page. The Full Record contains detailed bibliographic information, including title, author, source information, and abstract. You can also add the record to your Marked List.
eSearch -Topic searches may also find related Web sites, which are accessed via the eSearch button on the Summary page. eSearch extends your search outside the CC Connect database(s) to the full text of Web sites. These Web sites -- from Current Web Contents -- have been evaluated by ISI editors and meet strict selection criteria.
eSearch employs advanced Web indexing and retrieval technology to locate information on the Web that is relevant to your search, with special coverage in these areas: Preprints, Funding, Research Activities, and Web Site Reviews. Each item on the eSearch results list is linked to the specific Web page that is related to your search.

From the Marked List page, you can print a formatted copy of the records, save the records to a text file, export the records to reference software, order the records, or e-mail the records.
