DARE TO CAREFOOD BANK
ATTENTION MIDDLE, HIGH SCHOOL, MASTERS, & OPEN ATHLETES, COACHES, AND OFFICIALS
I am asking for your cooperation in a worthy community service project during this year’s 52nd Annual Mason-Dixon Games which will be held on MARCH 2-3, 2012.
This year, the Mason-Dixon Games will again be in partnership with the Dare to Care Food Bank. Dare to Care Food Bank is a Louisville area non-profit community agency dedicated to providing food directly and indirectly to those at risk of hunger. Dare to Care Food Bank distributes emergency food boxes through a network of more than 350 agencies and distribution centers in Kentucky and Southern Indiana. The agency rely on donations from individuals, groups, foundations, churches, companies and participating agencies as well as support from city, state and federal government. The people the agency help include the working poor and seniors: 50% of their clients are families with children.
It is also a startling fact that one (1) of five (5) children in our community go to bed hungry. This is one reason why the Dare to Care Food Bank initiated a unique program called Kids Café. Kid Cafes serve nutritious meals to children living in low income neighborhoods two to three nights a week. Dare to Care Food Bank operates 18 Kids Cafes by partnering with local agencies that have established programs for children such as mentoring, athletics, tutoring, and arts and crafts. This ensures that children are served meals in a safe and supportive environment.
I am sincerely asking that all athletes, coaches and officials that will be participating at this year’s Games, to please bring two (2) of the most needed items listed: canned meats (tuna, ham, beef stew, Spam, chicken and dumplings, chunky/hearty soups and chili), canned fruit, pork & beans, canned vegetables, canned fruit juice, canned spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, cereals (cold & hot), rice & spaghetti, saltine crackers. All non-perishable canned foods are welcome, however, please avoid GLASS containers. Monetary donations will also be accepted.
Please spread the word throughout your school, community, and family members who will be attending the Games as a spectator and let’s make this food drive a success just as the Mason-Dixon Games has been successful for the last 51 years.
I thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you at the Games.
