Child protection policy/Obligations for parents or legal guardians

British Council recognises that we have a fundamental duty of care towards all of the children we engage with, including a duty to protect them from abuse. We achieve this through compliance with UK child protection laws and relevant laws in each of the countries we operate in, as well as by adherence to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) 1989. In line with our Child Protection Policy, it is our expectation that any child under the age of 11 will be collected from the premises by a parent or designated carer (babysitter/grandparent/sibling etc.) over the age of 14. If your child is aged between 11 and 17 we understand that you may have given them permission to travel to and from the premises unaccompanied.

We do not take any responsibility for unsupervised children on our premises outside teaching hours.
