  • Please let us know of any other issues and we will do our best to help.

Logistics

The march will assemble from 11am on the Embankment near Blackfriars point The North West starting point will be 0.2 A – D (see map attached)

It will move off at noon, and march via Northumberland Avenue, Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly to Hyde Park for a rally.

Cont:

We understand that this is a slightly shorter route than the previous marches. It is hoped that it will allow more people to get to the Park in time for all, or a good part, of the rally content.

As a consequence the march will not be passing Westminster or Downing Street.

General Advice

So what should I bring? What do I do?

The day should be fun! So let’s help to make it fun by bringing:

  • Cards, books, pillows, personal radios or iPods for the bus
  • Whistles and rattles
  • Homemade placards, banners and branch banners
  • Any materials you’ve ordered through your branch in advance or made specially!

Let’s also make sure everyone is safe, happy and well. So make sure you bring:

  • Coats, jumpers, hats gloves, umbrellas and even sun cream and sunglasses!
  • A fully charged mobile phone
  • Packed lunches and plenty of snacks – there will be coffee shops but there’s nothing like a quick bar of chocolate or some raisins if the children get tired!
  • Any inhalers, medicines etc that anyone might need along the way
  • Bottles of water and other drinks – it isn’t going to be easy to move away from the march to get a drink
  • Pushchairs that can be folded away so they can go into the storage area under the bus
  • Rucksacks to carry things easily and leave your hands free for flags and placards!
  • A camera (or phone etc) – and let us have copies of any good photos you get!
  • Wear layers and bring a waterproof.

And remember

  • Wear comfortable shoes, trainers or boots
  • Old clothing is fine (or if you often/usually wear one, why not come in uniform?)
  • UNISON’s colours are purple and green
  • Don’t get caught short, remember to go to the loo before the start of the march.

*check your employers policy regarding use of uniform – just in case
