Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Open Forum 2017!

We are pleased to announce our Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Open Forum will be on Tuesday 28 November 2017 from 11am to 2pm at Broadmead Baptist Church, Union Street, Bristol, BS1 3HY.

The AGM will be an opportunity to find out more about our achievements over the past year and out plans for 2018.

This year, our AGM will focus on how Disabled people can be involved in decision-making to make Bristol a more equal and accessible city. We will be joined by Bristol Mayor, Marvin Rees to discuss how the Council will involve Disabled people in decisions that will achieve the Mayor’s vision of ‘a city for all’.

We will also be announcing the winner of the Rowen Jade Award which recognises the work of Deaf and Disabled campaigners in Bristol.

Up Our Street Thank You Award

Congratulations to Forum Advisor, David Redgewell who won an Up Our Street Thank You Award for his campaigning work for Disabled people in Bristol. David has been an Advisor with the Forum for 3 years and during that time has campaigned tirelessly for the improvement of accessible transport in Bristol.

New Forum Drop-In

The Forum will be holding the second of its new drop-ins on Tuesday 5th December 2017 from 11am to 1pm at St Pauls Learning Centre.

The drop-in will be a chance to gain information and support, let us know what your priorities are and meet other Disabled people in an informal setting. The drop-ins will take place on the first Tuesday of every month (please note: there will be no drop-in in January).

Independent Living Action Group

The Forum’s Independent Living Action group is an opportunity for Disabled people living in Bristol to meet, share ideas and discuss relevant issues such as direct payments, personal budgets, accessible housing and accessible transport.

The next meeting is on Friday 10th November 2017, from 11am- 1pm, at St Pauls Learning Centre, Bristol, BS2 8XJ.

Disabled Artist Residency Opportunity

Applications open for a £12,000 bursary for UK Disabled artist residency taking place January-July 2018.

This is an artist residency opportunity for UK-based Disabled artists (individuals who identify as Disabled people or have long-term health conditions) and currently works or would like to develop their practice in the public realm.

Disability History Month Seminar

This event will be of interest to all Unite activists and Disabled members (non-members also welcome) who are interested in campaigning against the systematic disadvantage faced by disabled people in the UK and promoting equality for disabled people both at work and the wider community.
