Brisbane City Council Budget Summary 2018-19

It is an honour for me to present the 2018-19 Brisbane City Council Budget.

Brisbane continues to be a great place to live, work and relax – it's a safe, vibrant, sustainable and prosperous city, valued for its relaxed subtropical lifestyle and leisure opportunities.

This Budget is underpinned by our five-point plan presented to residents in March 2016.

• Continuing to take action on traffic congestion.

• Delivering modern public and active transport systems.

• A clean, green and sustainable city.

• Building our local economy and creating new jobs for the future.

• Increasing the leisure and lifestyle opportunities in our city.

This Budget is centred on achieving the key principles of Mobility, Liveability and Sustainability. By focusing on these, we will be able to offer the services that residents demand and the choices that a New World City should have.

Our Mobility pIedge is demonstrated by this Administration's flagship commitment – Brisbane Metro. The $944 million Metro project will change the way people move and connect in our city and with the recent $300 million commitment from the Australian Government, it is now fully funded.

A liveable city is more than just new jobs and better roads. It is about creating new lifestyle and leisure opportunities in our suburbs. This Budget will support Brisbane's Liveability with more major events and local markets, and better facilities and venues for all ages to enjoy, with more things to see and do.

This Budget will support Sustainability by delivering more sporting and community parks. My commitment as Lord Mayor is to improve more than 2100 parks across Brisbane and deliver more parks and greenspace. All residents whether city or suburb based will be able to enjoy the new lifestyle and leisure opportunities these greenspaces provide.

This Budget proves that together we have achieved a lot, but there's more to be done. We are improving quality of life for residents while ensuring our city has the services and infrastructure to meet the needs of future generations and keep Brisbane heading in the right direction.
