Appointment of Design Technology Teacher

Technological Studies

We require a colleague who has the skills to motivate and engage students in one or more of the subject areas listed below.

The successful candidate will join the large, committed and enthusiastic Technology team of 9 teaching staff and 3 support staff. The Technological Studies faculty includes the subject areas of Resistant Materials, Product Design, Textiles, CadCam, Food, Hospitality & Catering, Art and Health & Social Care.

The departmental accommodation is appropriate and well maintained; much work is done to ensure all rooms are stimulating learning environments with extensive use of display materials. The Design & Technology accommodation is housed in one block and consists of the following rooms:

·  A textile room equipped with sewing machines, an over locker and two embossers.

·  A fully equipped food technology room.

·  An ICT suite with 2 plotter cutters, a laser cutter, a CNC miller, Solidworks and Techsoft 2D software.

·  An additional non teaching ICT room for students to use as a drop-in resource facility.

·  Two fully equipped resistant materials/ product design workshops with walk in store rooms.

·  Two large art rooms, a kiln room and a damp store.

Students study an accelerated Key Stage 3 curriculum during years 7 and 8 where they have the opportunity to experience designing and making products in all material areas. Groups are set and projects can be tailored appropriately. Students experience 5 areas of technology including: food, textiles, resistant materials, cadcam and product design during years 7 & 8. Students select their GCSE option choices at the end of year 8 and commence a three year delivery of the GCSE course. We currently offer: Resistant Materials, Product Design, Hospitality & Catering, Textiles technology and GCSE Art and Design.

The Design Technology Team is a very forward thinking and motivated department having established several new initiatives in the last few years. The person appointed will be a highly effective teacher, be familiar with National Curriculum KS3 strategy and KS4 examination requirements. We currently offer AQA and WJEC specification courses. We require someone who will be ready to assist in the further development of the curriculum area and be an integral member of the teaching team. There is a well-structured and generous programme of staff development. We have an effective team of specialist teaching staff who are supportive, motivated and dedicated to creating a positive learning experience for all our students.

Job Specification

Ø Effectively teach one or more material areas to students of all abilities at Key Stage 3 and to GCSE level.

Ø Participate, as required, in the preparation of students for external examinations.

Ø Contribute to the preparation of teaching materials and departmental schemes of work.

Ø Carry out with a positive commitment the role of a Group Tutor.

Ø Contribute to the college’s positive behaviour, conduct and attitudes of its students.

Ø Undertake any additional responsibilities which may reasonably be delegated by the Director of Technological Studies.

Person Specification

The successful applicant will be:

Ø  A qualified graduate teacher in Design & Technology. This post is suitable for an NQT or an experienced teacher.

Ø  Organised, efficient and be able to use their initiative.

Ø  Motivated and able to make an enthusiastic contribution to the work of the Technology Curriculum Area.

Ø  A good team player.

Ø  Innovative in their approach to teaching and learning.
