Brief Biographical Sketch

Dr. Michael Thomas Scott, Sr.

Dr. Michael Thomas Scott, Sr., a native of Dover, Delaware is the Senior Pastor and Servant Leader of the Galilee Baptist Church of Kalamazoo, Michigan. He previously served as Senior Pastor of the historic Jerusalem Baptist Church of Virginia’s Eastern Shore for twelve years. He has been preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ for 20 years. He was licensed and ordained by the Calvary Baptist Church of Dover, DE, under the tutelage and teaching of the Rev. Dr. Richard M. Avant, Jr.

He left home to further his education at the Virginia Union University, Richmond, Virginia, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree (Cum Laude) in Religion and Philosophy in 1998 and the Master of Divinity degree in 2001. During this period, he served as student-intern and organist at the Grayland Baptist Church of Richmond, under the mentorship of the Rev. Dr. Clifton Whitaker, Jr. He is also an honors graduate of the John Tyler Community College, Chester, VA, where he earned the Associate of Applied Science degree in Funeral Services, enabling him to practice as a licensed Mortician in the states of Michigan, Virginia, and Delaware. He holds an earned Doctorate in leadership and homiletics from the United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Scott has been featured in “The African American Pulpit” magazine for his article, “Grace in the Wilderness.” He is the author of three books, iPray: Maximizing Your Prayer Life in Today's Busy World, The Leader Within and Shape-Up: Strategies for Health Awareness through Preaching and Empowerment.

Dr. Scott’s ministry gifts include: Pastor, Teacher, and Evangelist. He and his wife, Minister Tamara T. Scott organized a non-denominational church plant in 2005, The Upper Room Church of Milford, Delaware. Dr. Scott is President/CEO of Michael T. Scott Ministries, which is an outreach ministry that seeks to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ all over the world through conferences, crusades, revivals, workshops, seminars, and multimedia ventures.

In addition to serving on numerous boards and civic organizations, he is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the National Funeral Directors Association, newly elected President of the Northside Ministerial Alliance of Kalamazoo and serves on Board of Directors for YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo. Throughout the years, he has affiliated himself with the National Baptist Convention, USA, the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc. (PNBC), and the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship, International.

Dr. Scott enjoys quiet time, reading, writing, technology, and spending time with family and close friends. He and his wife, Minister Tamara T. Scott, reside in Kalamazoo, Michigan with their three children, Trinity, Morgan, and Michael II (Brother).
